- —Maxine Danger[src]
History
Maxine met and held a private conversation with Ben Reilly when hearing doubts of his performance by her colleague, Marcus Momplaisir. When voicing those doubts and talking with Ben, she was pleased when he alleviated her worries about his performance and wished him well in his session with Dr. Ashley Kafka.[1] After Ben's unsuccessful attempt to catch Morbius, Maxine asked the doctor about the consequences of letting the vampirism go unchecked in Ben's blood. When the doctor responded how pondering was unethical, Maxine ordered the doctor to administer the antitoxin, and exited the med-bay.[3]
Shortly after, she had assigned Hero Department agents Misty Knight and Colleen Wing to subdue a new threat in Obsidian Star. However, the given capture technology led to a solid-hologram space, and while it was a golden testing opportunity, communications went down shortly after the two heroines used an anti-matter grenade. Upon their return, Maxine debriefed them to know what happened and was disappointed that Obsidian Star's power source wasn't delivered. But as they note her voice and the legality of her "disciplining them" could backfire, she was forced to save face and grant them some days off.[4]
Following Ben's abduction by Kraven, Maxine called Marcus for answers, reiterating her authority over him. With Ben returned, she was whelmed by his recovery status and resumed talks with lawyers on a lawsuit against the Brooklyn Spider-Man.[5] After Ben defeated new villain Rhizome, Maxine was annoyed he failed to enforce Beyond's copyright to the superhero name and placed Marcus on disciplinary action. She finished her lecture with Ben before returning to a watch room, learning of Doc Ock's investigation into them, readying a sample of Rhizome in planned counter-measure.[6]
With Doc Ock's siege of the Beyond Midtown branch and Spider-Man's failure to stop him, Maxine elaborated that the data drive contained ultra-sensitive information for Beyond.[7] As Doc Ock attacked Beyond Tower, Ben fought him and claimed to have destroyed the drive in the skirmish,[8] but Maxine found he was lying when spying on his therapy session. Before he could divulge sensitive details, Maxine deployed security measures and took him for memory editing.[9]
After a touch-and-go memory edit, Maxine lied to Ben that Janine left him, then successfully petitioned the Beyond board to create new supervillain, Queen Goblin, by merging Ashley Kafka with the captured sins of Norman Osborn. Equiping surveillance on the Goblin gear and directing her new villain to the DB! Building to stop a whistleblowing Janine, the drive was destroyed in the fight with Spider-Man. Expecting a further battle, Maxine was stunned to learn Ben just abandoned the fight,[10] ordering him to no avail to continue. Seeing that the original Spider-Man returned to best Queen Goblin, she demanded eyes on Ben and was unnerved to learn that Ben was heading to the Staten Island facility, sending a widespread red alert across Beyond frequencies.[11]Attributes
