History
As a representative of the Beyond Corporation, Marcus helped Janine Godbe with her relocation out of prison as a means of ensuring employee loyalty in Ben Reilly, the company's official Spider-Man.[3] Marcus then hired Dr. Ashley Kafka to ensure Ben Reilly's mental well being, and also for her research from Ravencroft in memory extraction. When Ben returned from informing the original Spider-Man of Beyond's ownership of the trademark, Marcus interrupted Ben's telling Janine the details due to legality of not knowing or affiliating with any past Spider-Men. As Ben was tracking the U-Foes, Marcus had him head to R&D for radiation proof equipment as a precaution.[1] After Ben returned and confirm he delivered the original Spider-Man to the hospital for treatment. Marcus was satisfied with the update, and scheduled a session with Dr. Kafka, before Ben received approval from the original Spider-Man and he continued the mission.[4]
Keeping up Ben's training with Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, Marcus was worried for him after an encounter with Morbius and approved a weekend off to recuperate.[5] When Ben returned, Marcus's dialogue caused an offense that led to Ben going radio silent before dispatching the Spider-Man to a high priory alert at a Beyond board member's home, Andrew Airs.[6] With Ben disconnected, Marcus and staff worked to find him while being hounded by Janine for answers and Maxine ordering such as well. Thankfully, Marcus reunited with Ben after his abduction by Kraven and got him medical attention before updating Maxine.[7] After sending Ben to battle new supervillain, Rhizome, on a rampage in Bed-Stuy, Marcus advised Ben should he meet the Brooklyn Spider-Man to get him to rename to another spider themed name given Beyond's ownership of the trademark. But from Ben's failure to "enforce" copyright, Marcus was given disciplinary action by Maxine.[8]
While promising not to disturb Ben and Janine's date night, Marcus called Ben when Doc Ock attacked Beyond Midtown and successfully stole a coveted Beyond item above his pay grade. Meeting Ben in the Medical Suite, Marcus learned from Maxine the stolen data drive held critical information for Beyond.[9] No time to recover, Marcus directed Ben to Beyond Tower as Doc Ock attacked with aims to revenge upon Maxine, and was shocked by Ben's admission to modifying the glider pack with a turbo thruster.[10] Following Ben's disastrous mission against new supervillain, Hellbomb, Marcus was sent to check on Janine while Ben underwent his scheduled therapy, but was taken hostage and used to exit the building.[11] Although he attempted coded language of the situation, Beyond security still allowed them through and Janine took his money before he returned to be detained by Maxine's orders. Once Janine and the data drive were found, Maxine told him they were at the Daily Bugle before telling Marcus about Jason Halifax to establish context. That said, Marcus was horrified to learn that Beyond was really investing in superheroes as a "solution" to supervillains they covertly create, all part of a long scheme to control the social narrative.[12]Attributes
