The Human Torch was the last surviving humanoid on Earth after an unknown disaster. At some point he found the Silver Surfer had brought Galactus to consume the Earth. The Torch knew the Surfer's purpose and attacked him, who was uncertain if he had seen the Torch before. The Surfer knocked down the Torch and offered to take him away from the dying planet, but the Torch refused to leave his home and left to take on Galactus himself.[1]
