Synopsis for "Hail to the Chief"
Setting up his smartphone to record their conversation, Daily Globe reporter Eddie Brock takes a seat in the Oval Office and prepares to interview President Eugene "Flash" Thompson. Noting that the President seems distracted, Eddie asks what's on his mind. Gesturing out the window, President Thompson says that the crowds of people standing outside journeyed from all across the country just to hear his Fourth of July speech. As Eddie asks if he's nervous, President Thompson sits at his desk and says that's not it, noting that nobody thought he could win the election. Eddie recalls that President Thompson seemed an unlikely candidate at first, having started out as a high-school football star. President Thompson interrupts, saying he'd been an absolute nobody until he joined the Army and had struggled to find a purpose for himself. As Eddie asks what turned things around for him, President Thompson says he visted a small church in Chelsea looking for a sign. As Eddie comments he thinks he knows that church, President Thompson says he found what he was looking for and more, something that helped him pick himself up and eventually become President. Smiling sinisterly, President Thompson says there's no telling where his path will end. Informed that it's time for his speech, President Thompson asks Eddie to wait for him, saying it'll be worth his time if he does.
Thinking to himself that he found his soul-mate and doesn't want to hide even if it means being called a monster, President Thompson approaches the podium. Declaring "God bless America!", President Thompson transforms into Venom. Initially shocked, the crowd chants "God bless America!" alongside President Venom. Returning to his office, President Thompson finds Eddie waiting for him. Saying that he's impressed President Thompson showed the crowd his true face, Eddie says he's going to show President Venom his -- revealing himself to be a disguised Carnage. Sneering that he killed the real Eddie and stuffed him in the trunk of his own car, Carnage says he wanted to get close to him to know how he got the people to love him. Transforming into Venom, President Thompson demands to know who Carnage is, and is mockingly told the crimson symbiote is the firstborn spawn of his own. Impaling him, Carnage answers President Thompson's dying question of why he's doing this by saying it intends to make the people love it like Flash did so that it can rule.
