Synopsis for "I Am the Black Widow, Part One of Four"
In the Tenderloin district at Natasha's "The Web" hideout, seeing Lucy progress so far in a few days training with Yelena, a sign of real talent, Natasha is impressed with her but debated with Yelena, wanting to provide normalcy for Lucy. To help that end, Yelena revealed her investigation into Apogee, with numerous shell corporations across half the city, and to infiltrate at least one, they'll need someone on the inside; to which Natasha preemptively recruited Anya Corazon, Spider-Girl, her help and is their inside agent already. While Yelena was incensed Natasha made a unilateral decision, she apologized but presented intel from Anya after four days undercover. Finding that Apogee's subordinates are called "The Olio", Natasha deduced that they were a means to a bigger objective.
Going to talk to Lucy, the young woman is still apprehensive about leaving as she still wanted to learn what Apogee did to her, with her electrical powers surging from her anxiety. To answer her question on being manipulated and calm her down, Natasha explained why Yelena calls her Natalia as a reminder that she's Russian so Yelena feels less alone; with some understanding, Lucy asked to learn more about her later on. From there, Natasha asked Lucy about The Olio under Apogee, but having attended so few meetings due to the cult vibe, she could remember only a name: Voss.
With Anya ordered to continue undercover, as she'd be the first suspected, Natasha and Yelena infiltrated Apogee's "ceremony" with The Olio. Seeing him ready to endow powers onto three people, they broke cover to stop the ceremony, but Apogee escaped as The Olio fought The Black and White Widows. Abducting one for interrogation, a guy nicknamed Gumby, he started to explain himself before feeling ill and his powers started to dissolve his body into a fluidic substance. With barely a trace of his original biomatter remaining, a horrified Lucy questioned if she would meet a similar fate with her powers.
