WarioWare

Universal Marionette is a recurring microgame in the WarioWare series. It first appears in WarioWare: Smooth Moves, as one of Mona's microgames, and returns in WarioWare Gold as one of Wario's Twist League microgames.

Layout[]

The microgame features a background graphic that references Leonardo da Vinci's drawing "Vitruvian Man." In the front is a marionette, which has the appearance of a person with a black body with a bald, white head, white glove-like hands, and white shoes. In WarioWare Gold, the marionette is replaced with Wario, due to it becoming one of his microgames. The background was changed to dark purple, and the Vitruvian Man-like graphic is light purple and given a closer resemblance to Wario.

Gameplay[]

The player must move the marionette's limbs to deflect the watermelons aimed at its head. If done successfully, the player wins, but if the watermelon hits the marionette's head, they lose. In WarioWare Smooth Moves, a loss is indicated by the watermelon knocking off the marionette's head and replacing it. In WarioWare Gold, the marionette of Wario instead tilts to the side and spins out.

Difficulty levels[]

The changes between difficulty levels are slightly different between the microgame's WarioWare: Smooth Moves and WarioWare Gold iterations.

In WarioWare: Smooth Moves, the first, second, and third difficulty levels require the player to deflect two, four, and six watermelons respectively.

In WarioWare Gold, the first, second, and third difficulty levels require the player to deflect two, three, and four watermelons respectively. Level 3 sometimes features an alternative gameplay objective in which the Wario marionette has to be adjusted to fit into a storage case; in doing so, the player wins the microgame, but if not done on time, they lose.
