A Star Pipe is an item which appears in Mario Party DS. It can be bought from any Item Shop after the fifth round for 15 coins. This item is the successor to the Genie Lamp/Magic Lamp and Wiggler Capsule/Flutter Orb (from previous installments).
Description[]
When used, the character enters the Star Pipe (a golden Warp Pipe with a Star on the side) and gets taken to the space where the Star is. They can then purchase that Star, for twenty Coins as usual, on the same turn. In Kamek's Library, the Star Pipe takes the user to the Lucky Jar containing the Star.
Strategy[]
Star Pipes are best used on boards such as Toadette's Music Room and Kamek's Library. In the former, it can be used to quickly purchase an inexpensive star and advance the star to a higher cost, forcing opponents to pay more to catch up. In the latter, it is especially useful as it will transport the player to the jar containing the star with no fear of finding a decoy, thereby assuring a player a star at the cost of 25 coins. Star Pipes can be used quite well on Bowser's Pinball Machine, as they are the only way to guarantee that a player will not land on a space in the Bowser zone should they be sent there on their previous turn. In fact, it may be worth using a pipe even if the player has no intention to buy the star or is unable to, in order to protect his or her position.
