Mario Party

Hedge Honcho is a 4-Player and Duel minigame in Mario Party DS. It appears as the seventh minigame in Score Scuffle. It can be played in Party Mode by having its name selected on the roulette wheel after all four players land on the same colour space or after someone lands on a Duel Space; this also unlocks it for free play.

Opening[]

The characters are seen pushing off some leaves, and rushing to the next patch of leaves to start the minigame.

Gameplay[]

All players must rush to the finish line by throwing leaves out of their path. There are five segments of the course, and occasionally, there may be ladybugs or bees to block the character's path. Players must use the stylus to rub off the ladybugs to make them fly away, but they must also be careful to not touch the bees at any cost, or else the bee will sting them and the player will be stunned momentarily for a few seconds. Two segments have one ladybug each, two segments will have one bee each, whilst one of the segments will have nothing blocking their path.

If more than one makes it to the end for first place, the minigame can end with more than one winner. However, if nobody makes it after five minutes or both players make it to the end simultaneously in the Duel version, a tie is declared.

Ending[]

The character who made it out first will be standing on a lilypad in a tranquil swamp, and do their victory dance. If the game ends in a tie, the two/four characters stand on separate lilypads and do their losing animations. The four-player version can end without a loser.

Behind the Scenes[]

Etymology[]

Hedge Honcho's name is a pun on the phrase "head honcho," in which is a term to refer to the person in charge, and hedges, rows of which it takes place in.
