Metroids are parasitic alien creatures from the series of the same name. Their first appearance in a Mario-related game is Wario Land II, in which it makes a cameo as one of the treasures. Metroids themselves have gone on to appear within a few microgames of the WarioWare series as well as in later Super Smash Bros. installments as an Assist Trophy.

In WarioWare series[]

WarioWare: Twisted![]

A Metroid is present in level 3 of the microgame Metroid-Samus, in which the goal is for Samus Aran to use her Arm Cannon to shoot at a Metroid a few times as it tries to latch onto her. This is unlike earlier difficulty settings, in which Samus only has to shoot an enemy once to defeat it.

WarioWare: Touched![]

There is another microgame named Metroid, and the object is for the player to use their Stylus to drag the Metroid off Samus.

WarioWare: D.I.Y.[]

Two Metroids are featured in the downloadable microgame Metroid. The object is for the player to destroy both by tapping them with the Stylus, upon which Samus pops up to face the screen. In Assembly mode, the Metroids are named METROID1 and METROID2.

WarioWare Gold[]

A Metroid reprises its role in the third difficulty setting of Metroid-Samus.

In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[]

A Metroid makes a cameo appearance as an Easter egg in the background of Amiss Abyss. It can be seen when the Kongs pass the first signpost and giant illuminating statue, reach the end of the trench, and then backtrack to the statue. In doing so, a Metroid can be seen floating upward from the seabed in the background.
