Mario & Luigi

Lob-ombs are an enemy in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Lob-ombs are a variant of Bob-omb, and they are encountered in Dreamy Dozing Sands.

Description[]

Lob-ombs have cuboid yellow bodies, two green eyes, two stubby legs with wheels for feet, and two arms.

Combat[]

Lob-ombs are absent from the field, being fought only if Mario and Luigi engage in battle with a Skipdrill or the dreamy variant of Sandoon. In battle, Lob-ombs are seen at the southernmost point of the enemy's side of the field.

To attack, Lob-ombs throw bombs at their foes; this must be avoided by swatting the bombs away with a Hammer strike. Which hand the Lob-omb uses to throw its bombs telegraphs which Bro. it aims at: right for Mario and left for Luigi. Alternatively, it may take out three bombs with one of them having an explosion mark before hiding the explosion mark and juggling the bombs and then throwing them. The target has to use his hammer to bat the bomb with the explosion mark away; the other two bombs are harmless. Blocking both attacks results in the Lob-omb being damaged.

If a Lob-omb is slain, it will explode on its next turn, damaging any nearby enemies.

Variants[]

A stronger variant of the Lob-omb called the Lob-omb R can be found in Mount Pajamaja's Dream World, Dreamy Mount Pajamaja. These stronger Lob-ombs appear at the Summit Dreampoint, and their colour scheme is green.

Behind the Scenes[]

Name[]

The name Lob-omb comes from "bomb" and the verb "lob" (to throw).

Nomenclature[]

In Japanese, Lob-ombs are called Bomupoi (written ボムポイ), from bomu (transliteration of English "bomb"; written ボム) and poi (which represents a tossing sound; written ポイ). Their French name, Robomb, comes from robot (robot) and English "Bomb." German calls them Wurfomb, from Wurf ("throw") and English "bomb." In Italian, their name is translated as Bombot from bomba (synonym of esplosivo (bomb)) and English "robot." In Portuguese, their name is Rob-bomba (derived from Robô ("robot") and bomba (which ironically means "air pump"; explosivo means "bomb")). Russian gives their name as Robombist (written Робомбист), which comes from "robot" and bombist ("bomber"; written бомбист). In Spanish, they are referred to as Robobombes (from robot ("robot") and English "bomb"; singular Robobomb).

The Lob-omb R's name is the same as the regular Lob-omb but with the letter R in it for each language (i.e. Robobomb R in Spanish), with the exception of Russian, where an asterisk is added, resulting in Robombist*, and Japanese, where Āru (written あある) is added, resulting in Bomupoi Āru.
