Hoppycats are an enemy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Physical description[]

Hoppycats are mollusk-like creatures that wear a green shell with a few spikes on it. In a level towards the end of World 3, however, an orange Hoppycat can be seen that is holding the Wonder Flower.

Behavior[]

Like with Skipsqueaks, Hoppycats jump at the same time as the player's character. Due to their spiky shell, Hoppycats cannot be jumped on; however, they can be destroyed by certain other methods, such as when Mario uses his trunk as a whip when he is an elephant.

Etymology[]

Their name is a portmanteau of "hop" and "copycat," referring to how a Hoppycat jumps at the same time as the player's character.
