Fort Cobalt is a location found in Paper Mario: Color Splash. It is the location of the Big Blue Paint Star, which is guarded by Ludwig von Koopa.

Layout[]

A bit of a military type level, there are several training points, lockers and gates. There is also a shop. You can buy various items with different effects, and also a special. Trying to buy the special will cause the toad to talk about the "big weapon" Ludwig uses, and then gives you 3 tanooki cards.

History[]

Mario and Huey arrive to smell a Big Paint Star. After rescuing the Rescue Squad members, they proceed to the base of Ludwig Von Koopas. After battling and beating him, the base surrenders and they get the Big Paint Star.

Boss fight[]

When entering the final area in Fort Cobalt, specifically where the ship resides and the big paint star. After going down the stairs, the big door opens, then the Super Ludship and Ludwig himself is introduced. Because Ludwig doesn't normally attack Mario now, the Super Ludship instead does the job of attacking Mario. Attempting to attack the Super Ludship with normal battle cards will only do no damage, so you will have to resort to different ones. Specifically, the Tanooki Tail card can redirect the cannonballs back to the Super Ludship, thus damaging it. After doing so for the first time, Ludwig starts to summon Koopa Paratroopas to attack Mario, after defeating both and attacking the Super Ludship; Ludwig will summon spikes to attack Mario, but the spiky balls it throws will only be deflected. The cannonball this time will go in a different pace, so you might accidentally miss it.

Once you have defeated the Super Ludship, Ludwig uses the Super Ludsub because the Super Ludship itself was supposed to be temporary. Attempting to use any battle cards will not reach the Super Ludsub itself. And deflecting the attacks the Super Ludsub gives itself will not work, it will just go under water to ensure it will not take damage. A solution to prevent the invincibility of Ludwig is to use the Balloon Thing Card, which will bring the Super Ludsub all the way to the battlefield; making it vulnerable and then causing it to be damaged and then it explodes. After that, Ludwig takes a lot of damage, almost lost of color all the way to its eyes. The battle will go on normally like the usual enemy.

After defeating Ludwig, two Shy Guys will enter the door and surrender with a Blue Big Paint Star. Huey then asks them to throw the Big Paint Star to the platform, then Mario obtains the Blue Big Paint Star. When this occurs, the ocean in Violet Passage is fully painted, allowing Mario to continue his adventure there.
