This article is about an ally in Kamen Rider Ghost. |
Onari Yamanouchi (山ノ内 御成, Yamanouchi Onari) is a Buddhist monk of the Daitenku Temple and the legal guardian of Takeru after Ryu's death.
History[]
Background[]
Long ago, Onari was a monk trained under the Daitenku Temple owner Ryu Tenkuji. He sees Ryu as an idol and always trains hard to become a ghost hunter. After Ryu's death, Onari took care of Takeru Tenkuji and became the acting head priest of the Daitenku Temple. He would also take in Shibuya and Narita as apprentices.
The Fifteen Heroes Eyecons[]
On Takeru's eighteenth birthday, Onari refuses to release Takeru from his ghost hunter training and argues with Akari Tsukimura that ghosts do indeed exist. When the Katana and Yari Gamma tries to attack him, Takeru saves him and tries to fight the monster off despite Onari and Akari unable to see what he was doing. Takeru would end up being killed in front of him. However, his ward would be return as Kamen Rider Ghost and tasked to collect fifteen Heroes' Eyecons if he seeks to ressurect himself.
With the the existence of ghosts proven before his very eyes, Onari would begin to assist Takeru and form the Mysterious Phenomenon Institute to solve paranormal cases that may be related to the Gamma. Onari is happy at Takeru's determination on becoming a ghost hunter and wanting to aid him. Despite being considered a nuisence, Takeru still considers him a good friend.
While assisting Takeru against the Gamma, the mysterious Kamen Rider Specter would emerge to collect the Heroes' Eyecons for an unknown purpose. Specter is actually Takeru's long lost friend Makoto Fukami, who seeks to revive his sister Kanon. Although the fifteen Heroes Eyecons were gathered, Onari decided to wish for Kanon's ressurection.
With Takeru's days growing shorter, Onari decided to celebrate his ward's last days. After a battle against Jabel, Onari and Akari were forced to watch Takeru ascending to the skies until he was revived as Ghost Toucon Boost, elating Onari. Takeru is given a new mission to connect with the Eyecons. As a result, Takeru is given an additional 99 days to complete his mission.
The Eyecon Connection[]
Onari would continue to accompany Takeru as he embarks to connect with the Eyecons, while gathering the ones that are still lost. Meanwhile, the Gamma forces were increasing in strength as they began kidnapping human souls. Furthermore, Gamma Superiors had made their way to Earth and the Gamma Prince Alain transformed into Kamen Rider Necrom. As the Eyecons began possessing civilians, Onari and Akari would help contain the situation until Takeru would gain their approval to use their powers.
The Demia Project[]
The Mysterious Phenomenon Institute would assist with the Kamen Riders to face Adel, the elder brother of Alain who usurped the role as Gamma emperor. The Kamen Riders would eventually come face to face with the Gammaizers, artificial deities of the Gamma World assisting Adel in his mysterious Demia Project.
During a battle with the Gammaizers, the Ore Eyecon would shatter which caused Takeru's third death. While his death saddened Onari, he resolved to not give up. Together, he and her comrades performed a miracle that allowed Takeru to come back to life. This granted him the Mugen Eyecon, allowing Takeru to access his final form, Mugen Damashii, using the form of light to connect everything infinitely. However, despite coming back the third time, he is still in a ghost state.
War for the Great Eye[]
As Adel embarks to use Demia to transform Earth like the Gamma World, Onari assists the Kamen Riders to destroy the Demia servers as they continue battling the resurfaced Gammaizers. After Adel connects with the Great Eye, he revives all of the Gammaizers. Onari later accompanies his companions to the Gamma World to assist in fighting Adel's forces.
Although the Gammaizers took over Adel at the last minute, Takeru was the one to strike him down honorably to let his spirit pass away in peace. The Gammaizers forcibly fuses with the Great Eye to become the Great Eyezer. Onari continues to help the civillians as the Gammaizers declared humanity deserves to be eradicated. Ultimately, Takeru was able to defeat the Gammaizers and celebrate with him after he was finally turned human.
With the Gammaizers gone for good and Takeru fully revived, the others meets a boy named Ayumu, who is being pursued by a mysterious black Kamen Rider. In the end, Onari is left saddened and alone as he is no longer priest of the Daitenku Temple, his apprentices leave him to follow Jabel, and Takeru and Akari leave to follow their own pursuits.

Personality[]
Onari is highly dutiful in his jobs, either protecting Takeru or as a monk. He idolizes Ryu, as well as having a high respect for Takeru despite being a few years older than him. Despite being melodramatic and somewhat bumbling, Onari is competent enough to help Takeru.
Onari believes firmly in the supernatural, which often results in his arguing with the logical and scientific Akari.
Despite his usual comic-relief attitude, Onari still has the Buddhist wisdom and selflessness that proven useful for negotiation purposes. His wisdom manages to change Javert heart to better and even 'tamed' people with massive god-complex like Kuroto Dan.
Forms[]
In episodes 43-44, Onari's soul was temporary trapped inside a Gamma Eyecon. Onari's soul in the Gamma Eyecon can also possess someone such as Alain. This Eyecon was ultimately destroyed by Gamma Superior Perfect, forcing Onari back to his own body.
Transient (トランジェント, Toranjento) is the default pre-form armor of Kamen Rider Necrom. Like most pre-forms in the Kamen Rider Series, it is weaker than all of the other forms and exists solely as a transition stage of the armor to any given Damashii form.

Necrom possesses the Various Goggles (ヴァリアスゴーグル, Byariasu Gogōru), giving a near 360 degree field of view. Similarly to Ghost and Specter, Necrom possesses a sensory horn known as the Sweep Horn (スゥイープホーン, Suīpu Hōn), allowing him to also perceive targets from within 8 kilometers, and allowing him to control nearby Gammas to do his bidding. While doing so, the Gamma act like zombies controlled by a necromancer. Necrom's armor composition is created by Quantum Liquid (クァンタムリキッド, Kuantamu Rikiddo), allowing him to liquefy and phase through attacks.
Onari temporary transforms into Kamen Rider Necrom when his soul possesses Alain's body. However, his fighting style is much weaker than Alain's. Onari in Alain's body is defeated by Igor. As result, Onari's Gamma Eyecon is destroyed and his soul returns to his original body.
This form is exclusive to Ghost Episode 44.

Onari is possessed by Goemon again in the stage show and assumes this form.
While assuming Ore Goemon Damashii, Ghost dons the Great Byaku Head (ダイビャクヘッド, Dai Byaku Heddo) and the Magnificent Hood (ゼッケイフード, Zekkei Hūdo).
This form is exclusive to Kamen Rider Ghost: Final Stage.Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
Onari is portrayed by Takayuki Yanagi (柳 喬之, Yanagi Takayuki). While under the possession of Goemon Damashii, he is briefly voiced and co-voiced by Tomokazu Seki (関 智一, Seki Tomokazu).
While Onari's soul is possessing Alain, he is portrayed by Hayato Isomura (磯村 勇斗, Isomura Hayato) while retaining Onari's voice.
Notes[]
- Onari's favorite historical figure is Ishikawa Goemon, as evidenced in episode 13 and 15.
- In episode 24, Onari's body is used by Goemon's spirit. While being possessed by Goemon, kabuki-style make up appears on Onari's face, and he dons a kabuki costume prop on his back. He also carries a hand fan with him and exhibits mannerisms similar to a kabuki actor on stage.
- In Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Ghost & Drive: Super Movie Wars Genesis, Onari is shown to have the ability to channel energy into his staff by reciting a short prayer/spell-like phrase. It is unknown why this was not referenced nor seen again in the TV series.
