Personality[]
Judge Morpho is an extremely determined denizen who will stop at nothing to achieve justice in the name of the law, even to the point of making insane decisions at the expense of others.
History[]
Book Four - Duet[]
"The Iceberg Car"[]
Caterpillar Sheriff appears at the end of the episode with the other Bug Cowboys confronting Kez, Ryan Akagi and Min-Gi Park.
"The Old West Car"[]
Kez manages to distract Caterpillar Sheriff and the other insects so she, Ryan and Min-Gi escape into the town. However, Samantha later sells them out when Caterpillar Sheriff is offered a bounty. Soon, the three are brought to court, where Caterpillar Sheriff metamorphosizes into a cocoon and then Judge Morpho. She read over the proceedings, revealing that Kez (whom she calls "Cactus Kez") stained a document of their laws, and immediately declares Min-Gi and Ryan guilty for aiding Kez. The two are then brought to a bug zapper to be executed, but they distract everyone with another bell while Morpho gets zapped, but miraculously survives. As she vows revenge, the three parka denizens from the Iceberg Car ask if they've seen Kez as too were mad at Kez.
"The Mega Maze Car"[]
Judge Morpho later reappears teamed up with Kez's other enemies, the parka denizens, Cow Creamer, Pig Baby now a toddler, and Nigel in the Mega Maze Car, revealing that since meeting up with the parka denizens, they decided to team up and get Kez once and for all. She spends most of the episode chasing after Kez in the air while others go after Min-Gi and Ryan. Morpho does not end up catching Kez due to Pig Toddler becoming hungry and eating Morpho after mistaking her for butter.
"The Train to Nowhere"[]
Kez apologizes to all the other denizens she's wronged after Morgan lets them in. They all realize that acknowledging their wrongs and apologizing feels good and forgive Kez. However, an angry Judge Morpho climbs out of Pig Toddler's mouth. She is the only denizen to not accept Kez's apology, even calling the others too soft. Morpho tries to attack Kez, but Ryan swats her with his guitar into one of Morgan's fireplaces, where she is shot out of a chimney causing the classic "twinkle in the sky." Presumably, this kills her off for good.
Trivia[]
- The name "Morpho" refers to the butterfly genus of the same name.[1]
- In real life, green caterpillars with orange spots similar to Morpho's sheriff form do not become blue butterflies like the judge. Instead, these caterpillars become moths like the Luna moth. Blue Morpho caterpillars have maroon lines and lots of hair.
- During the Book 3 AMA, Owen Dennis hinted at Judge Morpho by saying "the cabin that had the bug zapper fire hazard because all the moths hadn't been cleaned out of it?"[2]
- Coincidentally, Judge Morpho is the third corrupt and stubborn law official antagonist to pursue a main protagonist of the show and get killed off in the process. The first two were Mace and Sieve who pursued Lake in Book Two - Cracked Reflection.
