“ NOTHING IS OVER! „
~ John Rambo's famous quote.

John James Rambo is the titular main protagonist of the movie franchise of the same name. He is a former soldier in the US special forces army who suffers from PTSD and is trying to be at peace in his new life. He is potrayed famously by Sylvester Stallone.

His Good Ranking[]

Debated Validations[]

  • While he does have a very high body count which does make him come off as grey-zoned, it should be worth noting that everyone he has killed has tried hurting or killing him and the people he loves. He even avoids killing his enemies in the first film as he saw it as unnecessary.
  • He initially disagrees to aid Trautman's troops in Afghanistan, but it's because after what happened in Vietnam, he genuinely believes he won't be able to help them and it would only be a waste of resources.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He fought in the Vietnam War and was very loyal and protective of his comrades.
  • He immediately rushed to aid Danforth after a kid blew his torso from his legs, unfortunately Danforth succumbed to his wounds before he could do anything.
  • He agrees to help Trautman and Marshall find a group of American POWs who were captured by Vietamese soldiers
  • He spares Co Boa after realizing she isn't a threat and idolizes him and helps her return to the US
  • He frees Banks from captivity out of sympathy, despite only being ordered to report the POWs rather than rescue them.
  • He tries to get Co and Banks to safety after being betrayed by the pirates.
  • He helps Co kill the remaining Vietnamese soldiers after escaping their torture and agrees to take her back to the US.
  • After Co is killed by the last of the soldiers, he buries her body in order to prevent her from being scavenged by wildlife.
  • He destroys the Vietnamese and Soviet camps, saving other POWs from the same fate as Banks.
  • He rescues the remaining imprisoned POWs.
  • He kills Podovsky by blowing up his helicopter, preventing this incident from reoccurring.
  • Upon returning to the US' base in Thailand, he threatens Murdock with a combat knife, but agrees to spare him on the condition that he helps rescues the remaining survivors.
  • He states that he only wants his country to respect its soldiers in return for how much they've sacrificed for it.
  • He gives the money he earned fighting to a group of monks.
  • It's revealed that since the end of the previous film, he's been living in a Monastery, doing repairs.
  • After Trautman is captured by the Soviet army, he agrees to aid in the fighting despite being informed his effort will go unrecognized if he's killed, proving he doesn't engage in warfare simply for glory and is genuinely in helping people.
  • Upon reaching the Soviet base in Pakistan, he immediately tries to free Trautman and sends the troops who helped him back to their camp when he doesn't succeed.
  • The next morning, he saves Trautman from torture by Zaysen as well as several other imprisoned troops.
  • He, Trautman and an army of rebels led by their allies kill the Russian soldiers and saves the Afghanistan citizens.
  • He now resides in a smaller area in Thailand, hunting and fishing for his neighbor.
  • Although he initially denies it, he agrees to help a group of humanitarians venture to a river in Burma in order to aid struggling tribe people.
  • On the boat he expresses remorse for running from home as a child, although it was because his father tried to kill him. He also hints he still cares for his father.
  • He kills a group of pirates who stopped his boat in hopes of capturing Sarah Miller for rape and torture.
  • After the squad is captured, he agrees to help a group of mercenaries rescue the survivors.
  • Despite them constantly harassing him and ordering him to remain by the boat, he saves the mercenaries from the Burmese soldiers.
  • While he did hold a arrow to Lewis's head, he had no intention on killing him and ut was to keep him from aborting mission.
  • He saves Sarah from being raped by a drunk soldier, while his method of killing the soldier was extremely violent, it was the quickest most effective way he could manage at the moment.
  • After he and Sarah are found by two soldiers, he prepares to sacrifice himself as a human shield, fortunately they were rescued by School Boy.
  • He distracts the soldiers by tying a piece of Sarah's blouse to a bomb, which ends up blowing up most of the soldiers.
  • He saves the other mercenaries from execution and kills the soldiers in the area, providing them weapons and shelter.
  • He and the mercenaries destroy a war boat and kill the remaining soldiers with help of the Karen rebels.
  • He kills major Tint, preventing him from escaping and capturing more citizens. In so doing, Rambo ended Tint's reign of insanity for good.
  • After returning to the US, he returns to his old home in hopes of reconciling with his father.
  • He tries to convince his adoptive niece, Gabriela to stay away from her abusive father when she wants to find him
  • After learning she's abducted by sex offenders, he immediately travels to Mexico to rescue her.
  • He attempts to fight off the gang who captured Gabriela but is severely injured in the process.
  • He saves Gabriela after he recovers but unfortunately he dies from a overdose. Then, he gives her a burial near their house
  • He returns to Mexico and kills Victor's bodyguards and Victor himself as punishment for raping and killing Gabriela. Although his decapitated body is shown to be mutilated, it's not confirmed that he killed him so brutally as opposed to mutilating the body afterwards as a warning to Victor's brother Hugo, especially considering he killed him with a knife.
  • He ends Hugo's cartel and kills Hugo and his men, saving countless women from sex slavery.
  • He vows to continue living despite the seemingly endless cycle of pain and heartbreak in order to keep the memory of his loved ones from dying.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • While most of his victims are terrible people, he is still far to violent and wrathful too be NPG. A prime example would be pinning Hugo to a wall and ripping out his heart while he is still alive. Another example would be Rambo putting Victor's decapitated corpse on display for his brother Hugo to see. These actions make him a clear cut anti-hero.
  • It's also unknown if he showed remorse and felt sorry about killing his victims.

Trivia[]

  • While his movie version is IA, his novel version he is based off of is IH.
