"Unbelievable!! There's something wrong with this world...!! Cammy has to change it herself! Wanting something doesn't make it come true! It's just not fair!!!"

— Camilla Hui Guo Rou in "Nen Beast"

Camilla Hui Guo Rou (カミーラ=ホイコーロ, Kamīra Hoikōro) is the Second Prince of the Kakin Empire and the daughter of her father's second wife, Queen Duazul. She is the eldest female among the 14 siblings.[2]

Appearance[]

Chap 358 - Camilla appearance 2

Camilla's appearance

Camilla is a beautiful woman with long, fair hair worn in an intricate hairstyle, with some locks falling on her back, others tied above the nape of her neck, and four framing her face. She has clear eyes and long eyelashes.[2]

In her first appearance, she is seen wearing a necked dress and a tiara. In general, she seems to wear fancy dresses.[2] Camilla wears a mermaid dress and an intricate hairband during the departure ceremony and changes into a tea-length ball gown with a choker necklace and a chandelier necklace for the formal party.[3] Several hours after the ceremony, she wears an intricate black turtleneck when having dinner with her mother.[4] Her hairstyle varies between appearances but generally is kept in some form of an elegant updo when appearing in public.[2][3][4] When she sets out to attack Benjamin, she wears a simple dress with a bolero jacket and black over-the-knee boots. Her hair is not styled and hangs down to her waist. [5] During the trial, she wears a cropped jacket over a light-colored dress with dark accents and an interlaced design on the sides. Most of her hair is tied in a simple ponytail.[6]

Personality[]

Chap 373 - Furykov threatened by Camilla

Camilla shows her sadism by promising to torture Furykov's family and relatives, before slaughtering him

In outward appearance, she seems to have charming and elegant mannerisms.[3] However, like her elder brother, Camilla has no problem in eliminating her siblings in a sadistic way, though she prefers to do it through easy, but heartless methods; for instance, she orders her own mother to assassinate her biological younger brother.[4] According to Shimano, Camilla only listens to the King.[7]

She is also a spendthrift, as she is fond of shopping for branded, expensive, and limited edition items, even collecting entire series of them. She does not have a particular desire to be the ones acquiring them, asking her mother to buy several collections, but does not blindly collect and has been seen wanting to look through items before buying them, indicating a preference for aesthetics over collection.[4] Her sister Tubeppa feels that she is greedy and despises her for it.[8] Despite her desire for beautiful clothing, she does not value them highly and has been seen leaving items of clothing strewn on the floor instead of putting them away properly.[1]

Camilla is self-centered and has not shown respect for anyone other than her father. She has been seen ordering her mother to kill her brother and her mother's son Halkenburg,[4] and has called her older brother Benjamin stupid in front of their father.[1] When addressing her father, she infantilizes herself by referring to herself as "Cammy" in hopes of having him adjust or clarify the criteria for dropping out of the succession contest to her specifications.[1] Her general self-centeredness is also seen from her wanting everyone to act as she desires, and her perception of the world as unfair simply because her wishing for something is insufficient to make it true.[1]

Background[]

Camilla gave the Have-Nots of Kakin the chance to become her private guards. She had a special district built on her private property where they can enjoy privileges equal to those of the military, which earned her the support of the group.[9]

Plot[]

Succession Contest arc[]

Camilla is first officially seen when Kakin's 14 Princes are introduced. Camilla is seen with her hands clasped in a praying gesture in front of her chest, wearing an intricate dress and her hair in an elaborate updo adorned with a tiara-shaped ornament.[2] On the day of the departure, Camilla is seen with the rest of her siblings and their father on a platform, standing demurely near the front of the group slightly behind Beyond and watching the crowd. Kakin's Royal Family is flown into the Black Whale 1 shortly after, where they reside on Tier 1 during the journey to the New Continent. Camilla is next seen attending a departure ceremony taking place in the ballroom on Tier 1 of the Black Whale 1 in a different dress, next to her siblings Benjamin, Zhang Lei, and Tubeppa.[3] During this departure ceremony, her Guardian Spirit Beast is seen for the first time; an elegant cnidarian-like creature without a clear head.[8]

Chap 363 - Camilla and Nasubi

Camilla talking to her father

Before she leaves the departure ceremony, Camilla approaches her father Nasubi to clarify the definitions of "survival" and "dropped out" for the Succession War. Nasubi informs her that the 3rd Prince Zhang Lei already asked the same question, and he would give her the same response, word for word: "The sole survivor is the official heir to the throne", telling her that how she interprets it is also part of the war. Benjamin joins the conversation, having overheard their last exchange, and tells Camilla that a king has no need to bother with how others define things. Camilla exclaims that she only wants people to do as she wants, and that her siblings should want her to win and volunteer to die on their own. Benjamin calls her conceited and unfit to the throne. She calls him stupid and antagonizes him, but their father orders her to show respect for her older brother. Instead of conceding, Camilla merely brushes them both off and walks away. Annoyed, Camilla thinks of how the world is unfair, and a head begins to emerge on her Guardian Spirit Beast.[1]

After Benjamin departs from the departure ceremony, he orders his men to guard the other princes, including Camilla. In response, Camilla tells her bodyguards to not let them into her sight, and to keep them outside the living room. She also asks her bodyguards to get her mother, Queen Duazul.[1]

Chap 372 - Camilla

Camilla on her way to kill Benjamin

Later that day, Camilla dines with her mother in Room 1002 while talking about buying clothes (from Musen, Coachpie, and Harryweb's Noctiluca line). She casually and abruptly pivots the conversation and discusses her plans to kill Benjamin first and then Halkenburg, ordering her mother to get closer to Halkenburg. When Queen Duazul expresses her misgivings, Camilla sternly orders her to follow. Unbeknownst to her, Benjamin's bodyguard Musse eavesdrops on her plans from where he was confined to in Room 1002, and plans to use his Nen ability on her.[4]

That night, Camilla rejects Kurapika's offer to have her Royal Bodyguards learn Nen.[10]

Chap 373 - Camilla resurrected

Camilla is resurrected by Cat's Name

During the evening of the next day, Camilla sets out to kill Benjamin. On her way out, she encounters Musse and divulges her plans to kill Benjamin, giving Musse a choice to join her or die.[11] Having recorded her conversations, Musse threatens her with arrest for conspiring to murder Benjamin and points a gun on her, warning her not to step closer. Camilla calls his bluff and continues to step toward Musse, making him nervous. Musse notes that Camilla is is in a state of Zetsu and surmises she must have a counter-type ability. He decides to shoot, expecting to either be able to learn her ability, or to kill her for Benjamin. He shoots and hits her thrice, once in the forehead and twice in the chest. Camilla collapses to the ground. Her men hear the commotion and rush to find her, but find the doors locked. Musse cautiously approaches her but remembers to fulfil his ability and manages to activate it right before Camilla's Cat's Name activates, consuming Musse to restore and resurrect Camilla.[5]

Camilla's men force a door open, see blood, and ask her what happened. Camilla lies and says that Musse had shot her but escaped, says that she is going to chase him, and orders her men to burn his personal belongings. They try to dissuade her, asking her to calm down and telling her she would play into Benjamin's hands by chasing Musse and incinerating his items. Camilla asks them if they would rather go themselves, and risk having their entire families slaughtered. They turn to her mother, Queen Duazul for help in convincing Camilla, but Duazul tells them to stay behind and let Camilla do as she wishes.[5]

Chap 373 - Camilla shoots the guards

Camilla shoots at Furykov and Wolfe

Camilla's men watch her as she turns around the corner in the corridor outside her room, and see Furykov and another guard step out to stop her. The two see the gun in her hand and raise their own guns at her, calling out to her to stop. Benjamin listens through Furykov's device and tells Furykov to not attack and let her through. Camilla aims at the heads of Benjamin's guards and shoots. Furykov is able to react and guard himself with Ken, but the other is killed. Camilla expresses her surprise to him and tries to goad him into retaliating, but Furykov restrains himself and follows her into Room 1001.[5]

Chap 373 - Furykov confining Camilla to a cell

Furykov restrains Camilla who threatens him

Camilla and Benjamin have a short exchange, and Camilla demands Benjamin turn over Musse. Benjamin tells her he refuses to play along with her charade, and calls for her arrest. Camilla opens fire and empties her magazine at Benjamin, also hitting Balsamilco standing nearby, but Benjamin and Balsamilco simply guard with Ken and Furykov places her in handcuffs[note 1] when she runs out of bullets. Camilla breaks into a sweat and threatens to torture and then kill Furykov's family, but Furykov is not threatened by this, and Camilla is placed into a holding cell, watched by Balsamilco Might and Furykov. Furykov suggests calling one of Benjamin's bodyguards who can use Nen back to observe her and her Guardian Spirit Beast in the cell, but Balsamilco explains that Musse managed to activate his Secret Window, allowing them to observe her.[5]

Chap 376 - Benjamin and Camilla inside the courtroom

Camilla in court represented by her soldier Nukuocon

The next day, Benjamin (represented by Balsamilco) and Camilla (represented by one of her soldiers) stand trial before Supreme Magistrate Cleapatro after Benjamin accuses Camilla of killing Musse. Camilla's representative claims self-defense from Musse's attempted assassination and a fear for her life when seeing Wolfe and Furykov point guns at her, and files a countersuit against Benjamin on suspicion of ordering her assassination. Balsamilco objects and points out that the number of shots Camilla fired was excessive. Both sides request the others' quarters are searched for Musse. Cleapatro puts in a request for the Royal Army to do so, and has both princes confined to the VVIP area and put under surveillance. Cleapatro allows them to keep their guards but tells them that a court-assigned escort would accompany them on any outings before adjourning the court. Benjamin and Balsamilco watch as Camilla leaves with two of her guards. Balsamilco remarks about their misfortune in Camilla escaping confinement, but Benjamin deems it a non-issue since Musse's Secret Window lets them see her actions.[6]

During the first Sunday banquet on the eighth day, Camilla is briefly transfixed by the music of Melody's flute performance, despite hearing it through a speaker system instead of in person.[12]

Chap 389 - Camilla under surveillance

Camilla staring at the reflection from her vanity

On the ninth day of the voyage, Camilla sits and looks at her reflection in a mirror in her residence in the VVIP area while under surveillance as her servants tidy the room and make her bed around her. While standing guard, Moswana looks at a picture of Benjamin and mentally reinforces her desire to curse Benjamin for Camilla. Sarahell has a briefing with Camilla's men, discussing the possible reasons behind Shikaku's actions and the possibility Halkenburg's men use curses like them. Sarahell reminds Umanma to put her life on the line to exorcise any curse Camilla receives. She also instructs Nukuocon and Cavic to use their lives for Camilla and the future, reminding them that Camilla gave them a choice while they were still social outcasts. Sarahell tells Camilla's men to investigate the presence of exorcists among the other princes should their targets die and ends the meeting by reminding them not to bother Camilla.[9]

Later, Sarahell speaks with Futataki about testing their offensive capabilities from a distance. After Futataki advises her that proximity is key to making an effective curse, Sarahell decides to go to the next set of Nen classes that Kurapika hosts despite Camilla not wanting them to ask for Nen lessons, so that she can test out her curse on Woble, likely the weakest of curses that Camilla's men can perform.[9]

At 11:45 a.m. on the tenth day of the voyage, Kurapika and Bill invite Longhi into Room 1014's master bedroom in order to privately initiate her with Nen, as they did with her unawakened classmates.[13] Longhi declines the divination as she reveals that she can use Nen and asks Kurapika for his help. She reveals her identity as Beyond's child, and shares that she had learnt of it when her half-sister Makaha had discovered her after she began her own investigation as a result of her parent's uncharacteristically blasé reaction to her not being selected to be Camilla's personal guard, since Camilla had directly selected the Have-Nots for that position. She asks for Kurapika's help in investigating her theory that Beyond is the father of one of the 14 Princes, and contracts the terms of Kurapika's assignment and agreement on top of his truce with Tubeppa using her Moonlight Act.[14]

Between 6:00 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. on the eleventh day of the voyage, 11th Prince Fugetsu is escorted around Tier 1 by Kaiser and the Ministry of Justice to deliver a letter that the recently-deceased 10th Prince Kacho had written for each Prince, to be delivered in case of her death. Camilla receives a letter, and reads it.[15]

Later that day, Camilla is seen having the nails on her right hand painted by a servant as she lounges in a chair, drink in the other hand, watching something on a tablet. Nearby, Fukataki directs other servants to tidy things up.[16]

Around the same time, Kurapika prepares to receive Camilla's guard for the second round of Nen lessons, beginning the next day. He asks Sakata and Hashito why they thought she changed her mind about sending her men to the lessons, and Sakata suggests that Camilla had been waiting to verify or wanted to verify his claims, pointing out that there must be some benefit for her side if Camilla had changed her mind about her guards attending. Hashito says that there could be any reason for it, genuine or malicious. To the side, Babimyna thinks about the rumors that her guards use unique curses, and wonders if they were Nen abilities, and if Woble was the target. Kurapika interprets Camilla sending only one person shows firm resolve, and considering her personality, convinces himself that they had ulterior motives, and did not want to simply learn. The letter sent to him by Melody containing the Princes' secrets did not mention Camilla, and so Kurapika wonders if Camilla had a secret that forced her to send an attendee. Kurapika tells Bill to keep Camilla's guards away from Woble as much as possible.[16]

Equipment[]

Handgun: Camilla briefly wielded Musse's gun after his death. She used it as a weapon as well as a way to get the opponent to attack her in order to activate her Nen ability. The handgun was confiscated following her arrest.[5]

Abilities & Powers[]

Camilla's status as one of the senior Princes of Kakin grants her significant political influences and assets that give her benefits to win the throne.[19] Camilla is confident enough in herself to the point of not fearing her elder brother, Benjamin.[1] She is moderately intelligent, enough to use Musse's disappearance to gain entrance to Benjamin's quarters[5] as well as to defend herself in court.[6]

Enhanced Endurance: Camilla withstood having her arm broken with only a slight change in expression and an increase in perspiration.[5]

Proficient Marksman: Camilla is a trained shooter. She is able to shoot two targets in the head in very quick succession. She is also relatively strong, able to pull the trigger of a double-action pistol several times in rapid succession.[5]

Nen[]

Camilla is a powerful Nen user. Her knowledge of post-mortem Nen allows her to employ it in her counteractive Nen ability, which makes even Benjamin hesitant about killing her. She is at least capable of using Hatsu and Zetsu.[5]

Chap 373 - The Cat That Lived a Million Times
Chap 373 - Cat Beast drains life force
A counteractive ability that activates after Camilla is killed. A huge cat-like Nen beast appears behind the killer, squishing them into its paws and extracting their life force, obliterating their body in the process. The life energy is transferred to the tip of the Nen beast's tail, which turns white and begins to glow. The cat-like construct then pours the life essence into Camilla's mouth, healing her injuries completely and resurrecting her. This ability relies on post-mortem Nen to boost its power, rendering Camilla virtually impossible to kill; however, the fact that death is its activation condition prevents her from negating damage she suffers without dying, and leaves Camilla powerless should the opponent not attack her directly. The ability may not be limited to one target, as she urged multiple guards to shoot her. It is unclear if she must be killed while in a state of Zetsu for the ability to be triggered.[5]

Guardian Spirit Beast[]

Camilla's Sacred Beast

Camilla's Guardian Spirit Beast

Like the rest of her siblings, Camilla received an egg from which a Guardian Spirit Beast hatched to protect her.[2] Since it is a parasitic-type ability, she has no control over it. The Nen beast is subjected to two rule-like instincts: it is unable to fight other Guardian Spirit Beasts as well as to directly attack the host of one.[8] It is known to be a Manipulator with a coercive-type ability that takes complete control of a target who fulfills certain conditions.[20]

  • (To Benjamin) "Cammy wants everyone in the whole world to do what Cammy wants! First, Cammy wants all other princes to die! Ideally, to volunteer to die! They have to think, 'Since Camilla is going to be king, I should kill myself'!"[1]
  • (To Duazul) "Mummy... don't get the wrong idea. That was an order!"[4]
  • (To Musse) "I'm going to kill First Prince Benjamin. Either help me or die. Make your choice. Aren't I nice?"[11]

Notes

  1. A loud "krak" sound is heard on Camilla's left when Furykov places Camilla in handcuffs. This "krak" sound is similar to the sound of a bone breaking or a less-severe injury of a similar nature. Camilla is seen later in the same chapter holding her arm while in a holding cell. However, Camilla's arms are later seen in several chapters without any indication that there was an injury, making it ambiguous if (or if so, how much) she was injured.
