Chap 296 - Welfin's centipedes activating inside Ikalgo

Welfin's centipedes activating inside Ikalgo

As Welfin screams out in pain from the shot, Ikalgo faces retaliation from Missileman as two missiles suddenly fly toward him and explode. Ikalgo is surprised that he's not only alive, but hasn't taken any damage from the attack. Welfin continues to ache from being shot, also shocked that Ikalgo discovered his weakness, with Missileman requiring an exchange of words. He rejoices that his own wound isn't deep and that Ikalgo will suffer a slow death, manifesting his "Black Centipedes" in Ikalgo's head. Welfin explains that the centipedes feed on his defiance, and if he disobeys his orders or tries to harm him, he will face unimaginable pain and eventual death.

Ikalgo disregards the threat, prioritizing his friends' safety over his own well being, and, struggling through the centipedes as they dig further out of his head, fires another shot at Welfin. He assures him that he's only trying to incapacitate him, firing yet another shot as Welfin yells out and the centipedes continue to grow in Ikalgo's head. Ikalgo gives a sly smile, finding it incredibly easy to be so reckless when his life alone is on the line.

Ikalgo's persistence forces Welfin to surrender, and Ikalgo feels less pain as the centipedes themselves seem to suffer, and he wonders if it's because Welfin said he surrendered. He asks him to remove the centipedes, but Welfin keeps to himself that he cannot disable Missileman after firing it, knowing it could cause Ikalgo to kill him. And so to buy time, he awkwardly pretends to pass out, but Ikalgo immediately aims his Fleadom and forces Welfin to admit the aforementioned information about his ability. Once again, Ikalgo feels the centipedes writhing in pain, this time after Welfin's confession.

After Welfin points out that Nen abilities reflect one's personality, Ikalgo asks if he remembers anything from his human life. After being pressed at gunpoint, Welfin reluctantly reveals the memories of his death by the Chimera Ants and his subsequent rebirth. As an Ant, the first thing he remembered was the one thing he wanted to forget: his own father strangling him, with a woman watching on, but his stepbrother eventually saved him. He remembers that his stepbrother was very similar to Gyro, a name that gets Ikalgo's attention as Welfin reminds him that he is their king. As he reminisces about the time he and Gyro spent together, wondering where he is, he desperately wishes to see him again.

Following Welfin's sincerity and confession, the centipedes begin to disappear and Ikalgo questions him about the doors he left open. Welfin tells him he left them open for people who were after treasure in the basement (i.e., Bizeff, Hina, and Shidore). He had been watching the monitors and assumed that Ikalgo would be an easy opponent after he spared Bloster. Before leaving, Ikalgo asks him if he's seen a woman in the palace, and Welfin reveals that a human was caught and put into a cocoon, deemed "Number 1." He gives Ikalgo the cocoon's exact location and laughs upon realizing how easy it is, to tell the truth.

After thousands of strikes from Netero, the King begins to feel a slight ache inside his body. But suddenly, Netero's right lower leg is instantly severed, as the King commands him to stop the bleeding and tell him his name, commending him on how long he lasted for a human.
