Now, a sorcerer is kind of like a magician, and this Sorcerer was a very fine Sorcerer. He could do all the very best magic tricks; like changing bats into butterflies, making diamonds out of warts, and changing small black cats into large white elephants.
And I had ensured... Mickey will get into no more mischief in my workshop. Then, again... He is Mickey Mouse.

~ Yen sid's last narration in Epic Mickey.
Yen Sid is the overarching protagonist of The Sorcerers Apprentice, the third segment in Disney's 3rd full-length animated feature film Fantasia. He also serves as the overarching protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series and Epic Mickey.
He is the owner of the Magic hat that Mickey, one of his students, borrows, and plays with its magic but loses control, and Yen Sid has to fix the problem and teach his apprentice a lesson.
He is voiced by Corey Burton, who also voiced Gus in Cinderella 3: a twist in time, Maurice in the House of Mouse, Grumpy in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Professor Von Drake in his recent incarnations.
Master Yen Sid is a rather severe-looking old man with long, grey hair, bushy eyebrows, and a long, grey beard that parts down the middle. He wears the famous, conical sorcerer's hat on his head. The hat is blue and decorated with several yellow stars and a yellow crescent moon. Fantasia shows that the top of Yen Sid's head is bald under the hat, though he never removes it in the Kingdom Hearts series.
He wears long, billowing blue robes with sky blue lining. The insides of his robes are dark red. The whites of his eyes are quite large in comparison to his small pupils, something that is further highlighted by the fact that his eyes are often wide open. In Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, there are very small changes to the sorcerer's robes, such as the sky blue lining becoming thicker and the robes themselves being a bit wider.
Personality[]
While little is known about his life as a Keyblade master, the elderly sorcerer is shown to be a rather stern man. In almost every instance, he is shown to be frowning. But beneath his harsh exterior belies a man who strongly believes in his apprentices no matter how much mischief they may get up to, demonstrated by when he expresses annoyance at Mickey for running off with the Star Shard and recklessly getting lost with it, but then forgives Mickey and awards him the title of Master with an encouraging smile.
Biography[]
Fantasia[]
Yen Sid appears in the film segment The Sorcerer's apprentice where he serves as the master of Mickey, after finishing his magical work, he takes of his hat and decides to sleep for the night, after leaving however, Mickey puts it on the hat and uses its powers to bring a broom to life to have it do his chore of filling a cauldron with water.
But this proves to be a mistake as the broom doesn't know when to stop and soon overflows the whole tower and when Mickey tries chopping it down with an axe, the remains sprout up into more brooms & buckets and they pretty soon create enough ruckus that Yen Sid appears and uses his magic to stop the spell, afterwards he smirks at Mickey to ensure that he learned his lesson before hitting him in the back with the broom as he goes to finish his chores the normal way.
Kingdom Hearts[]
Yen Sid appears in the game series where he once again serves as a mentor to the heroes, given his past status as a Keyblade master, he is shown to have great knowledge about the properties of the Heart, the Heartless, the Nobodies and the Unversed. It is he who explains the nature of the Nobodies to Sora, Donald and Goofy, and also tells them that as long as darkness exists in one heart, the Heartless will never cease to exist. So powerful and wise he is, that even Terra, Aqua, and Ventus speak to him with utmost respect, despite him not being their master. However, Mickey merely refers to him as "Yen Sid" without calling him "Master", possibly because Mickey, like Master Eraqus before him, is also a Keyblade Master.
When the dark Lord Master Xehanort along with his villainous alliance enact their endgame plan to plunge the whole multiverse into darkness, he aids our heroes in putting a stop to his madness, especially when he personally holds back an entire army of heartless (with the help of Donald & Goofy) so Sora & co. can go on and stop Xehanort.
Afterwards, after Xehanort's defeat & Sora's sacrifice when he uses his power of waking to bring Kairi back, Yen Sid and the others happily return to Disney Castle where they are reunited with Minnie, Daisy, Chip & Dale, and Pluto. Later on, when learning from Kairi where Sora might be, he let's Riku go on to find him, lets Kairi continue training with Aqua, and has Mickey study on how the world Sora's in before heading their to save him.
Epic Mickey Series[]
Yen Sid appears in the games as the narrator & benevolent creator to many. Here, he created a home for many forgotten & retired Disney works & he served as it's guardian, that is until much like the segment in Fantasia, Mickey causes accident which gives birth to a being called Shadow Blot which starts creating havoc all over the place until Mickey finally stops him.
Powers/Skills[]
Master Yen Sid is a master of the magical arts, able to perform powerful magic spells comparable to Merlin's. He has shown the ability to teleport, create illusions while training Mickey, and create cosmic smoke to locate a person. He seeks counsel with the stars to predict the conditions of the present and the future, which allows him to gather information about the worlds' condition and to pass it on to his allies.
As a retired Keyblade Master, he presumably still retains the power to use the Keyblade, but never used it since he had taken his leave.

Trivia[]
His name in "Disney" spelled backwards, which is quite fitting as he was based on Disney's founder Walt Disney himself.
Elements of Yen Sid's character-notably his title of sorcerer, his having an apprentice, and owning a magic hat-were applied to the character of the version of Merlin from Once Upon a Time.
The Disney animators used Disney's "dirty look" (which was the look that Walt gave his animators when he disapproved of their work) for the sorcerer by lifting his eyebrow.
In the original poem, the sorcerer (who didn't have a name) doesn't get angry with his apprentice for calling powerful spirits, instead makes the statement that powerful spirits should only be called by the master himself.
