James ‘’Jim’’ Gordon is a major character in the DC Universe animated series Harley Quinn.
Biography[]
He depends on Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman for everything, so that’s why in the Season 2 he wasn’t thinking about what other people can do, especially his daughter Batgirl, because he thinks Batman can do far better than everyone else. Despite he truly hates Harley Quinn, he was willing to help her stop Doctor Psycho and Riddler, so they won’t hurt a lot of people, especially ruling the world. When someone got the key to the city, he was very jealous at that person, because he wanted the key to the city so people can respect his name, and others will think about him as a hero. When Two-Face came along, he wasn’t sure about making a deal with him because he’s not a villain like him, but was desperate anyway because he wants everyone to think he’s a hero instead of a nobody. A lot of people realize what he did just to mess up Poison Ivy and Kite Man’s wedding. which was very selfish and not even heroic at all, because he was only focused on himself instead of others.
Eventually, he is convinced by Two-Face to run for mayor of Gotham.
Personality[]
This version of Commissioner Gordon is a realistic example of how stressful it would really be to be in charge of a city that's full of corrupt government workers, bent and underprepared cops, and superpowered criminals who either want to be rich, take over the city, or simply kill for the fun of it. Gordon is incredibly lonely in his position because his war on crime is unappreciated, he has no friends, his marriage is falling apart, (to the point where doesn't even blame his wife, Barbara, for cheating on him) does 24/7 nonstop day-to-day grunt and paperwork, and his drinking problem has gotten the better of him. This is also reflected in his design as he's overweight, has sunken eyes due to sleeping problems, his personal grooming has fallen to the sidelines as his mustache is messy, his stubble has grown out, and his hair is unkempt.
Later in Season 2, Gordon slowly becomes obsessed with arresting Harley in order to get the president of USA to accept Gotham City back into the country. After Harley escapes from Arkham and runs away from the city with Ivy, Gordon is ready to resort to any methods to capture Harley, dead or alive, completely disregarding the safety of himself and civilians to accomplish it. It reaches the point where Batman intervenes and calls out Gordon for being no better than the supervillains he's chasing. Batman asks Nightwing and Batgirl to help him stop Gordon before he does something he can't go back from.
