Hamura Ōtsutsuki is a supporting character in the Naruto anime/manga series. He was the younger twin brother of Hagormo Ōtsutsuki, both of them being the first people to be born with the ability to wield chakra, he is the ancestor of the Hyūga clan and the founder of the shinobi of the Moon.
He was voiced by Steven Blum in the in English dub, who also voiced Orochimaru and Zabuza Momochi in the same series and by Hisao Egawa in the Japanese dub.
History[]
Early Life[]
Hamura was the youngest son of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, a princess who took power from the God-Tree and became near-omnipotent. Both he and his Older twin brother Hagormo were born with an incredible amount of chakra as a result of their mother's actions and he had a standand dojutsu from the Ōtsutsuki clan called the ''Byakugan''.
At some the two brothers learned about the truth about the Godtree and decide to plot against their mother if she decide to go against them. This made Kaguya angry, and she later put Hamura under her control to fight against Hagormo, after Hagormo freed Hamura, she desired to be the most powerful being in the world. The two brothers would later fight their mother and the Ten-Tails two would later use Six Paths — Chibaku Tensei on their mother later sealing her with in turn created the moon. After the Moon's creation, Hamura took leadership of the clan and departed and went to settled on the Moon in order to guard the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path inside in order to prevent the Ten-Tails' revival.
Colonizing the moon[]
At some point in time while on the moon Hamura's Byakugan later evolved and would awaken the Tenseigan which he created by clustering the Ōtsutsuki clan's Byakugan. He also created an Tenseigan energy vessel that brought order and stability on the moon. An enviroment was created as there's an artificial sun and a sky, there also an ocean within the moon. Many settlements were built on the moon as there's a village and a temple and castle. Other habitats were also seen on the moon such as a crab that serves as a Gatekeeper. Hamura would also have many things name after him in his honor as a monument to him as there's a stone golem named after him and a temple called the temple of Hamura. Many equipment's would also have been created on the moon such as a Transportation Device, and Puppets.
Later Life[]
Hamura and his clansmen lived on the moon continued watching over the earth. As much time has passed Hamura grew elderly and eventually passed away in bed, surrounded by his clan. At some point in time he passed a celestial decree to watch over the earth.
After his death[]
Sometime after his passing, the Ōtsutsuki clan would continue the practice of using their Byakugan to strengthen the Tenseigan energy vessel. Eventually at some point in time the branch family began to misinterpreted their ancestor's celestial decree and began to think that he wanted them to destroy the earth to punish mankind for abusing chakra and using it to wage wars. Which lead to the main and branch families into a civil war. The branch family used the Tenseigan energy vessel to wipe out the main family. Sometime after the war the branch family soon started to die off dwindled to only Toneri leaving him as the last member as the Ōtsutsuki clan.
Meeting Hinata[]
Many years after his death, Hamura's spirit continued to live on watching over earth. Two years after the Fourth Shinobi World War Hamura's spirit along with all other deceased members of the main branch families of the Ōtsutsuki clan to meet with Hinata Hyūga to request her to prevent from Toneri from destroying the earth, giving her his power to destroy the Tenseigan energy vessel.
Descendants[]
Despite departing for the moon Hamura's bloodline continued on earth. One of the descendants who would later become known as the Hyūga clan and his other descendants becoming known as the Ōtsutsuki clan on the moon. In the Itachi Shinden: Book of Bright Light novel it revealed that some of the members of the Hyūga clan split off their descendants bloodline to assumed that their bloodline was too diluted to possess the Byakugan. Mukai Kohinata was one of the descendants who bloodline was believe to be too diluted to possess the Byakugan. Despite this he was able to possess a Byakugan in his left eye. Years after the Fourth Shinobi World War his descendants would extend out into the Uzumaki Clan as his descendant Hinata Hyūga would marry a descendant of his nephew Asura and his brother Hagormo, Naruto Uzumaki. The two would have two children together.
Powers and Abilities[]
Hamura is consider to be one of the most powerful figures in history, Hamura was able to defeat the Ten-Tails in battle together with his brother. During battle, Hamura wielded a sword with presumable proficiency as well as a shakujō. He has been noted to have inherited his mother's powerful chakra. Hamura, like his brother, was capable of transcending time well after his death to talk with others and likewise bestow power to them, using his chakra to manifest his form even centuries after his death.
As a son of Kaguya, Hamura was born with remarkable reserves of equally powerful chakra. He quickly learned to properly use this power for various purposes to help protect the land. Over time, he mastered how to use its power for battle, which made him able to fight alongside his brother against their god-like mother and eventually defeat her. Hamura's special chakra properties made him the only one of his descendants who was able to naturally and independently manifest the Tenseigan, while also making him the only who could destroy it, as he later bestowed Hinata his chakra so she could destroy the energy vessel.
Dōjutsu[]
Byakugan[]
As a wielder of the Byakugan, Hamura had access to the standard abilities of the dōjutsu such as: a near 360° vision, x-ray vision, and the ability to see the chakra pathway system amongst other abilities. His Byakugan was apparently very pure in quality, as it allowed him to later in life manifest its heightened form.
Tenseigan[]
Hamura at some point Hamura's Byakugan evolved and awoken the Tenseigan, and before his death, he sealed their power into the Energy Vessel.
Six Paths Senjutsu[]
Hamura, like his brother, was able to utilise Six Paths Senjutsu. With it, he gained additional abilities such as flying. Using this power, and the Six Paths Yin Power in conjunction with his brother's Six Paths Yang Power, was able to access the Six Paths — Chibaku Tensei, a colossal sealing technique was used to seal the Ten-Tails.
Much like his brother, Hamura continues to exist as a spirit after death, and can interact with the living, but likewise can only communicate if they are his descendants with an affinity for his chakra.
Truth-Seeking Ball[]
Hamura had the ability to manifest nine Truth-Seeking Balls like his brother. Later, in his older days, his Truth-Seeking Balls were floating in a sigmoidal formation behind his back in a similar way like his brother.
