Dawn Marie Granger, also known as Dove, is a superhero from DC Comics.
She received the power of Dove after the original was killed during the events of Crisis of Infinite Earths, allowing her to transform into the avatar of peace anytime she senses danger. Partnering with the original Hawk, Hank Hall, the two battled numerous villains and became allies and members of the Teen Titans, Birds of Prey and the Justice League. She also partnered with the second Hawk, her sister Holly Granger.
She was created by Karl Kesel, Barbara Kesel and Rob Liefeld, and first appeared in Hawk and Dove Vol 2 #1 in October of 1988.
Dawn Marie Granger is the daughter of S.T.A.R. Labs scientist Russ Granger and diplomatic courier Marie Granger. She also has a sister named Holly, but which sibling was born first has been changed since their debut. After high school, she started to attend Georgetown University.
Becoming Dove[]
During the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, Dawn was given the power of Dove to stop terrorists from destroying London's American embassy. Learning that her predecessor recently died, she attended the funeral of all of the fallen heroes from Anti-Monitor's campaign and encountered Hank Hall. She eventually deduced that Hank was related to her predecessor and approached him on becoming partners, but he opposed the idea of replacing his late brother. However, Hall agreed when she prevented him from turning into a agent of the Lords of Chaos by Kestrel.
Adventures[]
As a duo, Dove and Hawk fought several villains in Washington, D.C., such as Shellshock, Copperhead and the Female Furies. During their adventures, they met the Waverider, a time traveler working to stop the future tyrant Monarch. This event attracted the likes of the sorcerer Mordru, who used his magic to manipulate Hawk into thinking Monarch murdered Dove to drive him insane. He also used his magic to have Hawk impregnant Dove, as he wanted to inhabit the body of their child to control the powers of the Lords of Order and the Lords of Chaos. However, he was later thwarted since the the soul of Hector Hall inhabited the child's body Dove and the Justice Society. Once she stopped the sorcerer, Dove went to search for the new Hawk after Hall was killed in airplane crash.
Later on, she learned that her sister Holly was chosen to become the new Hawk, and the two partnered together to continue the Hall brother's dynamic. The sisters assisted the Teen Titans to stop Doctor Light, and became reserve members of the team until they joined Cyborg's Titans East. During the Blackest Night storyline, Dove witnessed a resurrected Hawk murder Holly by ripping out of heart, thus turning into a Black Lantern as well. Dawn soon discovered that she couldn't be harmed by the lanterns due to the power of her white light, and helped the living superheroes stop Nekron. After Hank returned to the mantle of Hawk, Dawn became concerned of his wellbeing once noticing his aggressive behavior.
While able to calm him usually, Hawk's behavior became more hostile than previously, such as nearly killing villains the Teen Titans faced. One such confrontation ended with Hawk asking Deadman to bring his late brother back, but the latter explained that Don found peace and can't return to the living. This also explained why neither a Black Lantern or White Lantern ring could revive Don, thus Hawk's request was rendered null.
