Biography[]
Early Life[]
Hector Saunders Hall was born in Cairo, Egypt to Carter Hall and Shiera Saunders, two legendary superheroes and members of the Justice Society of America. Unbeknownst to the couple, their child was born without a soul by the Egyptian God Seketh, as he wanted Hector to the vessel of the Silver Scrab to end the world. Due to his parents profession as archeologists and superheroes, Hector felt neglected by them and became envious of his godbrother Norda Cantrell when they visited him. Despite this, he found kinship with Al Rothstein, Lyta Trevor and Rick Tyler due to their parents being members of the Justice Society.
Becoming Silver Scarab[]
While enrolling to the University of California, Los Angeles, Hector decided to become a superhero by creating a suit made of Nth metal and taking the codename "Silver Scarab". Wanting to join the Justice Society, Hall applied to the team alongside Norda, Al, Jennifer-Lynn Hayden, Todd Rice and his girlfriend Lyta but were rejected due to their age and lack of training. However, the Star-Spangled Kid (later known as Skyman) left the team to form Infinity Inc. with the young superheroes and recruited Power Girl and Brainwave, Jr. to the group.
During his tenure with the team, Hall ultimately became possessed by the scrab and battled his teammates, but the prophecy was halted due to the assistance of Northwind. While dying from his injuries, Hall learned that Lyta was pregnant with their child, which made the scarab unable to combine with the Eye of Ra.
The Sandman[]
Hector was resurrected due to his lineage from his parents, but was once again used as a pawn when Morpheus' former servants Brute and Glob recruited him as a "dream king". Upon his return, he decided to become the new Sandman and fight crime and later convinced Lyta to marry him. However, he was returned to the land of the dead by Morpheus upon fixing the dreaming and defeating his former servants.
The New Fate[]
Hector was reincarnated as the child of Hawk and Dove, which made him the new Doctor Fate since their powers came from the Lords of Order and Chaos. He continued to fight against evil but remained focus on reuniting with Lyta, which caused him to be deceived by Mordru and later imprisoned by the entity. With the assistance from agents of the order, Hall imprisoned Mordru within the Rock of Eternity and eventually reunited with his wife. Despite the reunion, the two were imprisoned in Hell by Spectre during the cosmic beings' conquest to destroy all magic. Hector and Lyta ultimately decided to join their son in Dreaming, leaving their bodies on the top of a cold mountain.
