NOTE: This would only cover the original version of Kennedy Jennkins as his Rewriten counterpart doesn't count as a Hate Sink. |
Kennedy Jennkins is a supporting antagonist in Season 1 of All For Luz, serving as one of the secondary antagonists (alongside the rest of the Heaven's Devils). He is the 17-year old leader of Heaven's Devils and Foxtrot Alliance.
What makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- Kennedy Jennkins was made the leader of Heaven's Devils by The Governor. While Luz and Emilia are both nervous, he takes it in his stride as if forgetting the danger that they're in.
- He (somehow) has enough charisma and leadership skills to convince 20 other teenagers with Quirks more powerful than his own to commit murder for him for a cut of the prize money. This includes pressuring more reluctant team members like Thomas Oakson and enabling more sadistic ones like Darlene to indulge in their violent impulses.
- He also succeeds in turning the members of Team Foxtrot on their leader, Emilia Worstoch, who was against taking part in the Governor's deal to kill Luz, subjugating her to his whims. It also ruins any chance of the three teams banding together against the man who had them kidnapped and put them in this Death Game.
- Kennedy even tried to invoke the promise he made with his best friend, Stanley Richardson, to watch out for each other to try and convince him to betray Luz and then tries to attack when he refuses. Ken easily gets his assed kicked to the readers' amusement.
- In retaliation against Stanley for turning his offer down and fighting back as well as to have a better chance to kill Luz for the prize money, he spearheaded the attack on the team-base of Alpha Squadron, that slaughtered half of Luz's teammates.
- Its because of this slaughter that Luz loses her innocence, has an emotional breakdown and starts listening to All For One's poisonous words to avenge her fallen friends by abandoning her no-kill rule.
- Stanley is so shocked by his former childhood friend's carnage and feels guilty about not warning his new friends' sooner, he willingly gives up his Shock Absorption quirk to Luz believing himself to be unworthy of having a superpower, despite his heroic traits.
- He acts cocky and tough when things seem to be going his way, with his team backing him up outnumbering his enemies and clearly enjoys barking orders at them to do his dirty work. However, he gets easily frustrated and scared when things start to go south for him.
- Kennedy even goes as far as to cut off the head of Julia Wittebane's corpse and kick it like a soccer ball because he was projecting his hated of her family on to her, seeing them as a bunch of pretentious snobs, not knowing she was a genuine nice girl who was just disowned by said family.
- He foolishly believes Governor Maxwell will honor his agreement to pay him billions for killing Luz, with no intention of sharing any of it with any of his teammates. In reality, The Governor not only doesn't intend to pay up but has no intention of letting any of kidnapped kids live, something Stanley tries to warn him.
- He can also be quite hypocritically, mentally berating his underlings for being frozen in terror after witnessing Luz kill Thomas, despite doing no better.
- Kennedy claims his family is dirt-poor, barely surviving off of scraps, and winning the Death Game was the perfect opportunity to get out of poverty. This doesn't justify his actions at all.
- When Luz starts wiping out his 22 strong team one-by-one in her revenge fuelled rampage while stealing their Quirks for herself, he eventually has a complete breakdown and tries to pull flee, abandoning his comrades to try and save himself.
- Kennedy spends his last moments begging for his life, as Luz finishes him off without mercy, dying a coward to the readers' satisfaction.
Trivia[]
- Only the original version of Kennedy is a Hate Sink. His redux version is much more sympathetic.
