“ | You're decent as a human being. But know this: The decent ones die first on the battlefield. | ” |
—Galan Mossa, My Friend |
Galan Mossa (ガラン・モッサ) is a character from Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS anime series. His name is a pseudonym, with his real name not revealed.
Personality & Character[]
A former Gjallarhorn soldier and mobile suit pilot, he suddenly retired a couple years ago.[1] Since then, he has started working as a mercenary, and has been quietly supporting the activities of his long-time friend, Rustal Elion.[1] The two men came to know each other during their training school days.[1]
Before leaving Gjallarhorn, Galan was renowned as Rustal's bearded right hand man.[2] Even at that time, he had already gave up his true name and known to change his pseudonym from time to time.[2] There was also a rumor within Gjallarhorn that whoever he chose to be his subordinate would be able to achieve honor and success without putting one's life at risk.[2]
Skills & Abilities[]
A skilled mobile suit pilot, Galan preferred to use the older EB-04 Geirail as the machine suited his taste better.[2] He was known to have tested the EB-08 Reginlaze, and achieved higher test scores than Julieta Juris.[2]
Galan is also a cunning tactician and has significant military achievements in battles against pirates, etc.[1] His tactical skills were on display when he managed to drag out the war between Arbrau and SAU for weeks by withdrawing the forces under his command whenever the advantage swung their way. He is also skilled at reading his associates' psychology, and can easily feign concern to gain their trust.
History[]
Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS[]
He is secretly hired by Rustal to cause a war between Arbrau and the SAU by taking Togonosuke Makanai and Chad Chadan, Tekkadan's leader on Earth, out of action and causing panic at the Arbrau Defense Force's inauguration. It is hoped that by showing McGillis Fareed's inability to end the war between Arbrau and the SAU quickly, his credentials would be severely diminished.
After the bombing, Galan is placed in charge of Arbrau and Tekkadan's forces which he supplemented with his own mobile suit team. With the help of Radice Riloto, he manipulated Tekkadan's Earth Branch into non-stop skirmishes, dulling their senses and forcing them to rely on him for strategy. In private, Galan dismisses Tekkadan's members as animals, but bemusingly noted that they could be tamed with food and pats on the back of the head. The battles eventually pit the Earth Branch against McGillis's forces and results in the death of Aston Altland.
After Mikazuki Augus and the others from Mars intervene, he and his mercenaries withdraw from the battlefield and try to escape to the African Union. Unfortunately, they are sold out by Radice and defeated, with Galan defeated by an enraged Akihiro Altland. On the verge of being crushed inside the cockpit, he activates his Geirail's self destruct system before silently apologizing to Rustal. Since Galan conducts his business through his mobile suit's computer, Tekkadan was unable to find evidence that links him to Rustal.
Despite his death, Galan's words still haunt Akihiro during his battle against the JPT Trust.
