Love, Rose is the tenth episode of the second season of The Golden Girls and the thirty-fourth episode overall. Directed by Terry Hughes, and written by Kathy Speer and Terry Grossman, it premiered on NBC-TV on December 13th, 1986.
With Rose feeling lonely, she takes Blanche's advice and places an ad in the local newspaper's personals column. When she gets no response and feels even more depressed, Blanche sends her a response under the name Isaac Q. Newton. Their deception works until Rose invites Isaac to be her date at a formal banquet, and Isaac turns out to be a real person who contradicts the imaginary one in every way. Meanwhile, Sophia is stalked by an elderly gentleman and ends up going to the banquet with him, only to discover his actions are because he mistakenly believes she's rich.
Plot[]
Blanche and Dorothy write letters from a fictitious suitor in response to Rose's previously-unanswered personals ad, in hopes of cheering her up after a prolonged "dating slump." Meanwhile, Sophia is pursued by an English gentleman she met at the senior center.[1]
Blanche wears the same red dress in "Grab That Dough" when the ladies go on the eponymous game show.[2]
When writing the letters from Isaac Newton, Blanch and Dorothy said he was a citrus farmer. Later when at the dance, Isaac tells Rose he works at a high school and she never questions it.
Goofs[]
Isaac gives conflicting information about his living situation. When he's at the house, he said he took some good natured ribbing before he left the boarding house. While at the party, he said he stored the band candy in his garage and his mother didn't allow him to have a phone until last year.
