Unit Type is the classification of different classes in the Fire Emblem series.
Overview[]
A unit's type is largely based on their class as various skills and weapons utilize these statuses for a variety of effects, namely how some weapons interact with them. Some units have special properties due to their unit type such as movement changes or battle oriented mechanics. All classes innately carry at least one of these types though several classes, such as the Pegasus Knight or Great Knight classes, carry more than one unit type.
In total, there are nine unique unit types:
- Infantry Unit: Units that are considered foot soldiers such as Myrmidons and Mages.
- Horseback Unit: Units who fight on horse back. Also known as a Cavalry Unit, the Cavalier unit is the progenitor of the type.
- Armored Unit: A unit that wears heavy armor such as a Knight unit.
- Flying Unit: A unit that is mounted on a winged creature, such as a Pegasus Knight or Wyvern Rider, or has natural wings such as a Bird tribe Laguz.
- Beast Unit: A unit with beast creature origins, generally considered the main unit type distinction of Laguz and other beast tribe unit like a Taguel or Wolfskin. In Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates, Horseback units are considered beast units. in Fire Emblem Heroes, Beast units are a weapon type, rather than a unit type.
- Dragon Unit A unit that is mounted on a dragon creature, such as a Wyvern Rider, or is either a Dragon tribe Laguz or Manakete.
- Monster Unit: A hostile enemy creature which are heavily dependent on the game of origin. These include the Risen, Faceless, and Demonic Beasts. Most games that include monster creatures have unique weapons or skills to deal with such creatures.
- Puppet Unit: A construct unit created by the Mechanist class.
- God Unit: A unique unit status exclusive to Duma and the Creation in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
