—Merach's battle quote in Shadow Dragon.
Merach is an enemy character in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (Book 1), and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. He is an Armor Knight under the command of Princess Minerva and serves as the boss of Chapter 5,
Profile[]
Merach was commissioned by Princess Minerva to guard the entrance to the Aurelian Castle in her absence. Despite his efforts in holding down the entrance, the ensuring battle sees his army being overwhelmed by the Altean army along with the aid of Hardin and the Coyote's Men, and Merach eventually falls in battle.
Personality[]
Owing to the minor role played in a larger plot, Merach's personality is very vague to the public eye. From the few speaking lines he's given when engaged in combat however, one can deduce him to be steadfastly loyal as he was willing to hold the entrance to Aurelis Castle down in under the command of his princess despite the odds against him in battle. With his own course of actions leading to his death however, he was unable to see Minerva's change of aid to the Altean army, thus, unable to offer his services for the rightful cause.

Merach has very high Defense stat and decent HP (more HP on higher difficulties). It will be harder to attack him with any of your units with a weapon because he's also stationed on a fortress space. He'll gradually recover HP, shaving off any damages dealt on him. He also wields a Silver Lance (which he also drops upon defeat) allowing him to deliver heavy damage in return. Thankfully he has 0 resistance so it is best to lower his HP with Magic-wielding units before dealing the final hit with any character you're leveling. Alternatively, you can have Marth equipped with a Rapier or any Axe user with a hammer, attack him. If using Marth, just be sure to keep him alive, otherwise you'll have to restart the chapter if you haven't used any of the save states on the map.
