Restores HP by walking.
Description
Move-HP Up is a support ability that lets the user recover some HP while moving, both on field locations and world map as well as while riding a chocobo or driving a car.
Obtained[]
Move-HP Up is learned by the Guardian Forces Cactuar, Tonberry, and Bahamut for 200 AP. Cactuar is recruited by defeating Jumbo Cactuar on Cactuar Island reachable on a flying transport. Tonberry is recruited by defeating Tonberry King at Centra Ruins after felling his brethren in great enough numbers. Bahamut is obtained from fighting him at the hidden island on the corner of the world map.
If the player removes Move-HP Up with Amnesia Greens, there is no way to get it back.
Mechanics[]
Move-HP Up recovers approximately 1 HP for 10 in-game "steps" as shown in the "Walked" counter in the Battle Report. Steps accumulate faster on world map, and faster still when riding a chocobo or a car; steps are not accumulated by traveling on train or airship. What the unit of measurement "Walked" keeps track of is not specified, but one visual running "step" Squall takes on the field is around +10 to the Walked value, and so the player will get ~1 HP for every running step they see Squall do. HP accumulates faster when moving on the world map because the Walked counter grows faster even if visually Squall is taking the same amount of steps.
Guardian Forces also passively recover HP when the character junctioning them moves on the field and world map, but this is an inherent trait to them rather than an ability they learn.
Use[]
Move-HP Up is not really needed for anything, as money is plentiful and shopping is available from the menu, and curative spells are easily acquired from monsters and items. The player is likely better off saving their support ability spot for a more pertinent ability. The HP gained from moving on the field is fairly minor for short distances, and so may not be sufficient in keeping the party topped up between battles in scenarios where the player is frequently taking damage, and it would be unnecessary for scenarios where the player wins battles without taking damage. Walking in towns and other safe areas, and moving on the world map without encounters either via Enc-None or a vehicle would restore HP significantly, however, without the player needing to take any action.
For passive healing, the player can instead use Auto-Potion or Drains junctioned to ST-Atk-J. The player can use Move-HP Up to recover health in the final dungeon when healing may otherwise be cumbersome due to Item, Magic, and Limit being initially sealed.
