Fire Breath (ファイヤー/ファイアブレス, Faiyā/Faia Buresu?), also known as Flame Breath (ファイアブレス, Fureimu Buresu?), Fire Bracelet, Engulfing Flames, and The Lion's Breath, is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It is a Fire-elemental ability often used by dragons that usually targets an entire party, and sometimes can be used by the player either through Blue Magic, Dragoon class, or through a monster.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy VIII[]

Main article: Fire Breath (Final Fantasy VIII)

Fire Breath is a Blue Magic spell Quistis learns from an Inferno Fang. It deals Fire-elemental damage to all enemies depending on her Magic stat and on Quistis's Crisis Level.

Inferno Fangs are dropped by Hexadragons and Ruby Dragons, are mugged from Ruby Dragons, and modified from Ruby Dragon cards (10:1).

The ability's enemy version is a Ruby Dragon's Breath attack, though it is non-elemental and physical.

Final Fantasy X[]

One of Kimahri's Ronso Rage Overdrives, Fire Breath, deals moderate Fire-elemental damage to all targets. It can be learned from Dual Horn, Valaha, Yenke Ronso, and Grendel. The move is also used by Yenke, while Valaha and Grendel use a variant called Flame Ball after charging up, and Juggernaut uses a stronger version of it called Salvo.

The enemy ability Breath has a fire variant that functions similarly to Fire Breath, and is used by Vouivre, Mushussu, Nidhogg, and Fafnir. Adamantoise also has a fire-elemental Breath attack.

Final Fantasy X-2[]

Fire Breath is a Blue Bullet skill for the Gun Mage, inflicting Fire damage to all members of a target party. Fire Breath is used by Balivarha.

Flame Breath is a stronger variant of Fire Breath, used by Claret Dragon, Flame Dragon, and Zalamander.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Flame Breath, Engulfing Flames, and The Lion's Breath (all ファイアブレス, Fureimu Buresu?) are variations on the same ability used by shield dragons and chimeras. They inflict fire breath damage and occasionally additional damage over time in a cone before the user. As a breath weapon, they do not deal physical or magic damage and ignore those defenses.

Final Fantasy Tactics[]

The Red Dragon is the only enemy that can use Fire Breath, and only when an ally with the Monster Skill ability is next to it. It deals Fire-elemental damage to a unit in a two-square line emanating from the point of casting.

Fire Breath is an ability of the Dragoon, learned for 300 AP from the Lava Spear. It is also used as an enemy ability the Firewyrm. It deals Fire-elemental damage in a T-shape in front of the user with a WAtk of 40.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift[]

Vagrant Story[]

Fire Breath deals fire-elemental damage to all body parts. It is used by Wyvern, Hellhound, Wyvern Knight, and Wyvern Queen.

Description

Fire Breath is the initial ability of the Dragoon class, and is also used as an enemy ability by Drake, Djinn, and Orochi. At the cost of 10 MP, the user will inflict Fire-elemental damage to all enemies.

Final Fantasy Dimensions II[]

Fire Breath appears as a fire-elemental ability. There are three types of Fire Breath abilities available to players, with their overall potency and MP cost rising whenever the player's summon ranks up. Each version of Fire Breath deals fire-elemental damage to all enemies.

In addition, a stronger version known as Firaga Breath exists.
