Shops are places in Final Fantasy XII where the player can purchase abilities , items , gambits , and equipment in exchange for gil , as well as access the bazaar . Loot sold to shops both earns gil for buying wares and unlocks new bazaar sets depending on the items sold. The bazaar goods are shared by all shops, but the inventories are specific to each shop and can change as the player progresses through the game, new things becoming available to buy. Simply buying Technicks , magicks , or gear is not enough to use them; the character also needs to unlock the corresponding license on their License Board .
Visiting different types of shops a specific number of times (purchases are not needed) unlocks monographs at the bazaar, which allow the player to gain new drops from enemies. Necrohol of Nabudis has a hidden shop the player can find by inspecting a corner of a room in an area off the map . The Clan Centurio shop in Muthru Bazaar in Rabanastre sells items based on the player's rank in the clan. The shop adjacent to the Hunt Club quest on the Phon Coast sells wares dependent on the trophies the player has given to the bangaa trio. The Skyferries sell items, and different routes have slightly different stock.
The shop inventories and prices were updated in the Zodiac re-releases. Most things now cost less than before. Shops are denoted on the field with an orange-yellow sign above the vendor that reads "shop" in Ivalician script . On the in-game map, different types of shops are denoted by different icons. For example, the icon for a magick shop is a purple staff, whereas the icon for an item shop is a green pouch.

Amal's Weaponry [ ]
Rabanastre's weapon shop gains new wares as the player progresses through the story. In the Zodiac versions, more weapon types are available to buy earlier on, as the player can start Vaan out in any job and so any weapon type may be his starter weapon.

The magick shop keeps being updated with new spells as the player progresses through the story. More spells keep being added in the original PlayStation 2 version up until the events at Mt Bur-Omisace are complete, whereas the shop wares remain static in the Zodiac versions after a guest character joins in the sandseas.

Migelo's Sundries [ ]
Vaan and Penelo 's benefactor Migelo stays at this shop where the player can converse with him. He gains new dialogue depending on the part of the story the player talks to him. The wares are also periodically refreshed. Ammunition is available since the beginning in the Zodiac version as the player could start Vaan out with a ranged job.
Batahn's Technicks [ ]
Though Steal is available here in the original version of the game, the player cannot buy it because Vaan starts the game with it, and the player never has a party without Vaan besides the prologue. It has been removed in the Zodiac versions.

Burrough's shop.
Even though he can be later found in Nalbina Fortress (where he is not a shopkeeper) as if he escaped Barheim, Burrogh can still be found in the passage as well in the same place as where the player first met him. It is worth returning to him after the events in Giruvegan, as he will have high level gear in the original version, and a powerful magick in the Zodiac versions. To get back to Barheim Passage after felling Mimic Queen , the player will need to complete the "patient in the desert" quest in Estersand South Bank Village for the Barheim Key. The quest can be completed after the player has the Dawn Shard as part of the story.

One of two item shops in Bhujerba, this one is located outside the entrance to the Lhusu Mines . Both item shops in Bhujerba share the same inventory.
Street Vendors (bangaa) [ ]
The other street vendor is situated at the Khus Skygrounds and has the same inventory as the shop outside the mines entrance. The vendors get new wares after the storyline events at Draklor Laboratory , equipment in the original version and an offensive item in the Zodiac versions.
Bashketi's Gambits [ ]
All gambits shops have the same wares. In the original version, the inventory keeps being refreshed by progressing in the story, but in the Zodiac versions all gambits are available since the beginning of the game.

Shifty-Eyed Merchant [ ]
The merchant's goods depend on the number of Rare Game trophies the player has given Atak, Blok, and Stok.
The Stranded Merchant sells items in the Alley of Low Whispers. If the player missed getting the map for the Royal Palace of Rabanastre earlier, it can be bought here for 100,000 gil.
The shops in Archades have an extra counter for the chopmaster where the player can trade the chops they have collected in town to a sandalwood to gain access to Archades's Highgarden Terrace after the events in Draklor Laboratory. Doing this is optional. The streets of Archades have NPCs that need to be interacted with for the information exchange quest, but the NPCs in shops are not part of this quest.
Vint's Armaments - Weapon Seller [ ]
The petitioner for the hunt for Darksteel is found in this shop, the Homesick Man.

The player can come to Balfonheim early by taking a chocobo from the Tchita Uplands to the Cerobi Steppe . They cannot enter the town proper until Balfonheim is visited as part of the story, and can only use Dyce's shop by the entrance.
Dyce [ ]
Dyce is met in the area leading to Cerobi Steppe near the Gate Crystal. The player can actually access him before going to Archades by taking a chocobo from Phon Coast across Tchita Uplands to reach Cerobi Steppe.

Skyferries have two shop counters. One has the same items for each ferry, while the other's items differ on route. The player can board a skyferry from an aerodrome in a city and choose to travel in leisure class to gain access to the shops. More routes become available as more towns are visited as part of the story.

The Baknamy Merchant.
The Baknamy Merchant is not initially visible, but is found in the, Cloister of the Highborn (Zodiac ) or Hall of Effulgent Light (original). In the original game, the merchant is in a secret room connected to the northern-most area (this secret room also contains a Mimic Chest ). It is hidden in a corner, with the description ???. In the Zodiac versions, the Merchant is found at the Cloister of the Highborn on the northern-most area by speaking to the ??? by the corner before the tiny room.
In the original versions, the merchant will initially only sell Ethers . After the party completes the Great Crystal , most of its inventory becomes available except for the magick Scathe , which is unlocked when the Sky Fortress Bahamut rises. The merchant's wares are different in the Zodiac versions.
