Deseas the Ghost Genie is a 2006 beat 'em' up video game developed by HammerBro101 Incorporated and HammerBro101 Studios Peru. It was released on sixth-generation consoles in October 2006, with seventh-generation consoles seeing a November 2006 release date. It is the seventh installment in the Hammer Bro series and the first one to be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii, as well as the last one to be released on the GameCube.

Although this is a 3D open-world platformer, the game's levels each feature up to three different missions (Good, Neutral, Evil) that the player may choose to complete. The game's plot depends on which mission is completed as well as subsequent playable levels. The game involves Deseas and her quest to find the seven Chaos Emeralds in order to get revived while an evil alien race known as the Dark Heads invades the planet.

Plot[]

Two years after the events of Hammer Bro: Battle for Arequipa, Deseas seeks to be revived with immortality.

The story begins with Deseas on the outskirts of Arequipa. A newspaper stating that the Dark Asteroid has come back after its 14-year cycle (the last time it came was in October 1992) is blown by the wind into her hands. Deseas remembers hanging herself in 1903 at the age of 20, being trapped in her lamp in 1911, and being freed in 2003, only to be sucked into her lamp by the power of the Chaos Emeralds.

As Deseas is thinking about her memories, a group of dark blue and purple creatures emerges from the ground and moves toward the city to cause chaos. Deseas is about to capture the creatures, when suddenly, the creatures' leader, Blue Devil, tells the ghost genie to collect the seven Chaos Emeralds, and he promises to revive her and give her immortality so she says 20. Believing Blue Devil's promise, Deseas speeds off into Arequipa.

The story's progression depends on the player's actions of deciding the path Deseas takes by deciding which missions to complete in each stage. Some scenarios will reveal flashbacks of the Chaos Emeralds being used for purposes other than activating the Super form, as well as the black Chaos Emerald being used to sabotage machinery. All of the story paths lead to one of the following unique endings depending on how much Deseas helps the protagonists and SAGCP forces or Blue Devil and the Dark Heads:

  • If Deseas chooses to aid the Dark Heads in their quest to conquer the planet, then she will be revived and either become the new leader of the Dark Heads, defeat and kill Fire Bro, or betray the Dark Heads and claim the universe as her own. In the Evil scenario, Deseas plans to destroy the planet using the Chaos Emeralds.
  • If Deseas remains neutral to both sides, she will simply declare that she is glad to be revived with immortality and then kill Fire Bro.
  • If Deseas chooses to aid the protagonists in combating the Dark Heads, she will either become the president of Peru, admit that she is an experiment gone wrong and wants to return to her genie lamp or fight with Hammer Bro to proclaim that she is the most powerful being. In the Good scenario, Deseas defeats Blue Devil and vows to destroy the Dark Heads.

However, all of these endings are distortions of why Deseas actually wants to be revived. The true story of why she wants to be revived is explained in the Last Story.

In the Last Story, the Chaos Emeralds revive Deseas. Blue Devil tells Deseas that he will need the emeralds to begin the "Prosperity Ritual". Hammer Bro and the others (including Fire Bro) then arrive and tell Deseas not to listen to the alien leader. After Blue Devil reveals that he wants to use the humans as an energy source, he teleports the Dark Asteroid down to Arequipa.
