Dragon Quest IX[]
When the Hero is captured, and ends up in the Gortress, Sterling, fellow jail mate serves as a tour guide. He is shocked that the Hero could go through the barrier. The next day, a fellow jail mate is almost executed, until Sterling stops it. Every prisoner revolts and the Hero and Sterling defeats Goreham-Hogg together. Sterling re-obtains his whistle and to his surprise, summons the Starflight Express. He is revealed to be the captain of the train. Sterling turns out to be 'Fat-guts', an unknown character that Stella is searching for

- Sterling's name is suspiciously very similar to that of Styrmling, a dragon that once formed a triad with Greygnarl and Barbarus. This similarity is present in multiple different languages, including the original Japanese, hinting to a connection between the two.
