"Roller Jam!" is the twenty-seventh episode of the Disney Channel and Marvel Animation series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Synopsis[]

When Pops' rivalry with former best friend and skate partner Vernell threatens to ruin Roller Jam, Lunella meddles in their beef to squash it.

Plot[]

The Lafayettes are holding the annual Roller Jam at Roll With It and invites are sent out to everyone to come and participate. Lunella briefly encounters an arrogant young man named Brian Glory who wants to challenge Moon Girl specifically, but Lunella ignores him. As everyone shows up, one person from Pops' past, Vernell Lewis, shows up. Pops and Vernell were once friends and roller skating partners, but a mishap in the past caused the two to have a falling out. Lunella admits that she accidentally invited him as she looked through Pops' contacts and was distracted by the warning sign. Arriving under the belief that Pops invited him, Vernell forces him to have him stay at his place.

Pops and Vernell refuse to get along with each other, annoying the rest of the Lafayettes who want the Roller Jam to represent unity and togetherness. Lunella learns that Pops and Vernell do share one thing they can agree on, and that is that Moon Girl is their favorite superhero, so much so that both claim to be president of her fan club. Lunella decides to personally invite the two to the park and greet them. While Pops and Vernell aren't happy about being together, they do like Moon Girl and reminisce on the past and what caused them to break up. However, they still cannot agree on who was in the wrong and challenge each other to a skate off with the loser having to give up skating.

Pops and Vernell attend the Roller Jam where their arguing starts to cause everyone to not have fun. Lunella finally snaps and tells the two that they need to get over the past and move on. Just then, Brian Glory appears, having donned the guise of Blue Streak, and plans to rule the skating rink with his abilities. He proves to be a match for Lunella and Devil, but Pops and Vernell finally forgive one another and help out the heroes defeat Blue Streak, ending the threat and kicking him out of the building. Pops and Vernell resume their friendship as everyone is finally able to relax and enjoy the Roller Jam, bringing everyone together.

Trivia[]

  • This episode introduces the villain Blue Streak. However, this version is unique as there were two other Blue Streaks in the comic, one named Don Thomas, and the other named Jonathan Swift.
  • Two of the patrons attending Roll With It resemble Monkey D. Luffy from the anime and manga franchise One Piece, and Star Butterfly from Star vs. the Forces of Evil.
  • The pose Blue Streak makes during his introduction is a reference to the pose from Sonic Adventure's box art.
