"Dancing With Myself" is the twenty-eighth episode of the Disney Channel and Marvel Animation series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Synopsis[]
Lunella is desperate to find a date to the school dance, but when she gets Kid Kree to be her escort, she learns that peer pressure can harm the relationships that matter most.
Plot[]
While hanging out with Brooklyn and the rest of the soccer team, Casey informs Lunella that she is now heading the upcoming school dance which is themed after the moon. All the kids happily declare their intent to go with Brooklyn asking Lunella if she would like to be with the group. Lunella agrees, but shortly afterward, everyone gets a date, making her nervous. She decides to ask Eduardo who, despite his excitement, unfortunately has asked someone else out. Lunella resorts to making a clone of Bobby the Myth, but he becomes a small living mass of glob instead. At Casey's suggestion, Lunella decides to go on her own, which she does so proudly.
At the school dance, Lunella sees how happy everyone is, except for Eduardo who is dissatisfied with his date. Lunella goes into the bathroom to cry until she sees Mel-Varr suddenly fall out the sky. He tells Lunella that he was being chased by General Hyles and his Zingaran Army who always try to ransom him for Pad-Varr. Lunella decides to ask him out as a date, despite him not being familiar with the concept. The two go and end up having a good time, despite how awkward everything is. Even though it is obvious that they like each other, Mel-Varr admits that he feels he is not ready to date just yet. Just then, Hyles and the Zingarians arrive and attack the dance.
While hiding, Lunella learns that the other kids also were not comfortable having dates, except for Brooklyn and Cecelia, with Geri stating that she did not like being with Andy despite how other people felt about them. Realizing that everyone has their own pace, Lunella rescues Mel-Varr and they switch to Moon Girl and Kid Kree to fight the Zingarians, defeating them swiftly. Lunella tells Mel-Varr that she did indeed force him into the situation because she thought she was supposed to and they decide to remain friends, for the time being. As everyone enjoys the dance, it becomes apparent that Eduardo and Mel-Varr both like Lunella.

Trivia[]
- The title is a reference to the song of the same name by Billy Idol.
- This episode confirms that Anand and Fawzia are also LGBTQ+ characters.
- This episode confirms that Cecelia and Eli are most likely a couple.
- Both Lunella and Mel-Varr come to the conclusion that they are not ready to date. In the comics, while Lunella felt this way, Mel-Varr was far from thinking this and took every opportunity he had to ask for Lunella's hand in marriage.
- This episode introduces the Zingarian Moth Men. This is a slight deviation of what they are in the comics. The Zingarians are humans from Zingara whose land is partially inhabited by giant killer moths. They were also associated with Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja. This would make them the first characters or species in a Marvel production that did not originate from an original Marvel creation, but rather a separate source that was adapted or distributed by Marvel.
- When Lunella describes what dating is like, she shows pictures of three different couples. One of them is Merle and Matsuye, confirming that they are indeed a couple, and Korg and Dwayne from Thor: Love and Thunder.
- When Lunella asks Eduardo out, he imagines himself and Lunella dressed as Tuxedo Mask and Princess Serenity from Sailor Moon.
- When Lunella is scanning for a date, she briefly considers asking a girl out. Based on the fact that she wanted to simply hang out with Casey and the volleyball team, she most likely was just desperate, though it's possible that she was bicurious.
