Kara Digi is a location from the Disney animated series, Gargoyles.

Background[]

Kara Digi is a lost city in Nigeria that was built by the Panther Queen and the Houka tribe for the spider Anansi. After the panther quarreled with Anansi, the spider god became furious to drive all humans out of the city of Kara Digi. From time to time, Kara Digi remained in ruins where anansi still remained there until Fara Maku came and made a bargain with him which resulted into him becoming a werepanther. Following this, the Goliath and his companions fought against the massive spider across the abandoned city.

Role in the series[]

In "Mark of the Panther", a female panther mocked the other animals (including the spider Anansi) in the jungle. After Anansi transformed her into a human, the spider agreed to turn her back into her normal self if she built a large city called "Kara Digi". When the Panther Queen accepted her offer, she married the Oba, the Chief of the Houka tribe, and had many children and generations after generations, Anansi banished all the humans who lived in this village in the shape of a spider web, leaving the city abandoned in ruins.

Kara Digi remained undistrubed until in the present where the Manhattan Clan tried to stop Tea Gora who is chasing Fara Maku (as a panther). Soon as Fara Maku transforms into his human form, Tea who transformed back into her human form threatened to kill Fara Maku with a spear only for Bronx to counter her, followed by Goliath breaking her spear. Goliath asks Tea about the reason why she is hunting Fara Maku, so Tea then recaps of the reason she was hunting Fara Maku all along during her life at the city of Abuja where she had a hard time adjusting into the city ever since the negative effect of the Mark of the Panther, which led Tea to chase after Fara Maku in panther form while Fara Maku recaps of his relationship with Tea in this moment when he made a pact with Anansi. As Diane tries to figure out who placed the Mark of the Panther, Anansi appears and tells her that he was the one who did it.

As soon as Tea confronts Anansi, Fara Maku tells him that he will serve him for the rest of his life as a werepanther just as the Manhattan Clan confronts Anansi for what he did to the two of them. During the battle, Fara Maku transforms into a werepanther and attempts to kill Anansi in a fit of rage which Anansi wraps him up in the webbing. During the battle after Fara Maku gets caught in spiderweb in his panther form, Tea attempted to rescue him only to be countered. The Manhattan Clan worked together to defeat him by cutting the spider web, causing Anansi to fall into the ground, followed by Goliath impaling Anansi with a spear given by Diane. This resulted in Anansi to be shrunk into the size of a tiny spider.

Following the aftermath after Anansi was defeated, Fara Maku then makes amends with Tea Gora, getting along with each other serving as protectors of the jungles of Nigeria, just as the two were able to get along in despair.

Trivia[]

  • During the part where Anansi was defeated after Goliath impaled him with a spear, a small spider can be seen escaping the ruins of Kara Digi for safety. According to series creator Greg Weisman, the small spider that was running away was none other than Anansi who vanished from his colossal size to his diminutive size while escaping in defeat.
    • This can give a hint which implies that Anansi survived the battle against the Manhattan Clan and later returned in the episode "The Gathering" - albeit retaining his colossal size.
