Background[]
The Head Clerk is a skeleton who wears a green visor on his head. He is shown to wear a plain white collared shirt with two pale green straps and a necktie on it. He wakes a pair of light brown pants as well as a pair of dark brown shoes. When he approached Miguel, he believes that he was cursed so he offers Imelda a marigold petal to send him back to the Land of the Living to make sure everything else is normal.
Role in the film[]
When Miguel encounters Imelda and the rest of the Rivera family members in the Land of the Dead at the Department of Family Reunions and when Imelda notices that Miguel took her family photo out of her ofrenda in the real world, the Head Clerk hears the commotion which the Clerk tells him that his family was cursed, explaining to Miguel that the Day of the Dead is the moment where people give offerings to their relatives, explaining to Miguel that he "stole" the family portrait of Imelda which Miguel tells the Clerk that it wasn't about the guitar he took from the mausoleum of Ernesto de la Cruz which Imelda replies to him to not mention the man who left his family (referring to her husband who left his family) while Dante sneaks up on a pastry with pink frostings and sprinkles, a pan de muerto, and three rolls on it which the Clerk mistakes the xoloitzcuintle for an alebrije which the Rivera family members don't think Dante is an alebrije but rather a normal dog, which the Clerk replies that he is allergic to dogs - whether alebrije or normal which Imelda explains that none of the topics explain that why she is unable to cross the marigold bridge which Imelda realizes that Miguel took her photo from the real world which she asks the Head Clerk to know how to send him back to the real world, he replies to her that the way to undo a curse is to get a family's blessing so that everything should be back to normal by sunrise. He gives Miguel a marigold petal which he finds on Rosita's dress while Imelda tells Miguel to return home and put her photo back on her family's ofrenda which Miguel manages to accept Imelda's blessing. However, Miguel only finds himself back in the real world.
When Miguel returns to the Land of the Dead, the Head Clerk and the rest of Miguel's family members notice that he went back to the Land of the Dead about two seconds ago, which Imelda tells Miguel that he should avoid going to the same path her late husband did, much to Miguel's worry just as he manages to escape while the Head Clerk notices this. He does not make any further appearances after that.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown if the Head Clerk was aware of Ernesto de la Cruz - especially when Ernesto himself was revealed to be a fraud as he has never physically interacted with him.
- According to him, the Head Clerk is allergic to dogs. Ironically, since the Head Clerk is a skeleton and Dante himself is a dog, this is a possible reference to dogs being attracted to bones.
- In the Spanish dub, he is voiced by Andrés Bustamante, who previously voiced Mike Wazowski in the Latin Spanish dub of Monsters, Inc..
