Grapple is a character who appears in the 2003 Disney live-action film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. He served as one of Hector Barbossa's crewmen who often partnered with Mallot and was one of them cursed by the chest of Hernán Cortés on Isla de Muerta.
Background[]
Grapple serves as one of Hector Barbossa's crewmen along who worked along with the cursed crew of the Black Pearl. During battle, he used a grappling hook and a hatchet for his weapons when he was serving the notorious captain's orders. However, during battle at Isla de Muerta, Grapple was knocked into the ocean alongside Mallot while he was still cursed. However, after the curse was lifted with Barbossa defeated, it is likely Grapple and the rest of the crew surrendered after Barbossa's defeat. It is unknown of what happened to Grapple following the aftermath.
Role in the film[]
As the Black Pearl raids Port Royal, Grapple and a group of cursed pirates raided the town in an attempt to look for treasure. During the raid, he fought against Will Turner throughout the ambush. Grapple confronted Will during his encounter, but the former was hit by a window sign pushed by a cannonball throughout the battle, dispatching him. Grapple survived and returned to the Pearl.
Grapple is later present during battle against the HMS Dauntless where he remained onboard the Pearl with Mallot. They began arguing on what food they should eat once the curse was lifted during a situation where Elizabeth Swann knocked Jack the Monkey off the deck. Noticing the monkey who was falling off, Grapple noticed the monkey and then rushed to find the attacker which Elizabeth used a lifeboat to knock down Grapple and Mallot into the ocean in their skeletal forms. It is unknown what happened to him after that, even after the curse was lifted following Barbossa's defeat.

- Grapple was Trevor Goddard's final onscreen film role as well as his only role in a Disney project before his death on June 7, 2003, one month before The Curse of the Black Pearl was released.
- In the original screenplay for The Curse of the Black Pearl, Grapple was named "Big-bones" while Mallot was named "Skinny" before both of their names were changed in the final version of the film.
