- I understand this as a yellow lantern, with a ring that is fueled by fear. Now I'm acutely attuned to fear in all living things... and I feel none in Superman. [...] Clark has never had much to fear for himself. His humanity was always tied to his compassion and fear for others' well-being. But without Lois... he changed. He lost that fear. Now he may be beyond caring what happens to himself or anyone else. That makes him capable of anything. And while that's a scary thought... right now, I'm terrified that a Superman who isn't afraid to lose anything... will lose everything.
Superman, birth name Kal-El and adopted name Clark Kent, was the brutal High Councilor, leader of the Regime. He was originally Earth's premiere superhero, but the death of his beloved wife Lois Lane, his unborn child and the destruction of Metropolis at his hands, unintentionally, caused him to become a supervillain and subjugate those he once swore to protect under the guise of protection and stopping evil.
History
Origin
Superman was born as Kal-El on the planet Krypton. However, soon after his birth, the alien Brainiac attacked the planet and, after abducting his chosen cities, destabilized Krypton's core in order to cause its destruction. Kal-El's parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, in their last act to save him, put their son in a spaceship to escape the dying planet.
The last son of Krypton eventually landed safely on Earth, where he was discovered and adopted by Jonathan Kent and Martha Kent, a Kansas farming couple. He was then given the name "Clark Joseph Kent" as his adoptive legal name. Over time, Clark began to discover his powers, eventually becoming Earth's most powerful hero.
Clark was active as Superman for over twelve years before the attack that changed his life forever.[3]
Destruction of Metropolis
One night, Superman is awoken by the sound of two heartbeats coming from his wife, Lois Lane, indicating that she is pregnant. Shortly, Superman takes note of events happening elsewhere while Lois gets a call from the Daily Planet regarding a tip involving a politician taking a bribe down at the Metropolis docks. The two depart their separate ways to investigate what has gotten their attention. Superman meets with Batman, who informs him that he's in Metropolis on his way to S.T.A.R. Labs where something was taken. After informing his best-friend and hero ally, Batman of the news that he and Lois are expecting, he discovers that his friend Jimmy was killed while with Lois on the assignment at the docks, while Lois was kidnapped. Distressed that he cannot locate her, Superman goes to Batman, who had been investigating the theft of Kryptonite from S.T.A.R. Labs and requests him for his help, showing him a Joker card left behind at the docks. Batman promptly informs the rest of the Justice League to begin searching for Lois.
When Wonder Woman finds out that it was the Joker who kidnapped Lois and hijacked a submarine along with Harley Quinn, Superman rushes out to open waters, finds the sub, and enters it, only to be confronted by none other than Doomsday. Unbeknownst to him, it is not actually Doomsday he is seeing, but an illusion caused by fear toxin laced with Kryptonite which Joker stole from Scarecrow, the purpose of the Kryptonite being so that the toxin could enter Superman's bloodstream. The League realises, with horror, that not only is a nuclear missile warhead missing from the sub, but that Lois had a heart monitor attached to her by the Joker that would detonate a nuke inside Metropolis when her heart stops beating, which it does as Superman watches in horror once the gas wears off and sees who he really took into orbit.
When he learns that Joker is the one responsible, the enraged and sorrow-ridden Kryptonian confronts the Clown Prince of Crime in the middle of Batman's interrogation. Superman shoves the Dark Knight aside and demands to know why Joker would do such a thing. Joker taunts him as being a more gullible target than Batman, along with Superman's reluctance to kill and the fact that he ended up destroying everything he loves in the end, and wondered if he could love again after this. Finally pushed beyond his patience and distraught from his immense loss, Superman murders Joker by shoving his hand through his chest as Batman watches in horror. However, Joker's last word is a maniacal laughter, satisfied that he broke The Man of Steel to a point of no return.
The murder becomes a turning point in Superman's life. He decides that he will no longer hold back, and that if he must scare or kill to ensure justice, then he will. This puts him at loggerheads with Batman, and Superman even tells Batman that he learnt the idea of enforcing peace through fear from Batman himself. The divided opinion breaks the strong friendship the two men had shared for years, putting them on opposing teams: Superman and the Justice League on one side, Batman and other heroes he assembles to aid him on the other.

Meeting Jon Kent
At some point, Ultraman journeyed through the Multiverse killing every version of Clark Kent he could find, eventually reaching Earth 49. Superman killed him by attacking his counterpart from behind and snapping his neck before he could even react, also meeting Jon Kent. Clark instantly recognizes the young Superman as an alternate version of his unborn child.[4]
Fall of the Regime
Main article: Injustice: Gods Among Us (Video Game)
Years later, Superman rules the world and thinks of bringing order to it in a necessary way with Batman opposing it. During Story Mode, this leads Batman to bring in different Justice Leaguers from another reality where the bomb never went off due to Green Arrow being dead in their current timeline as his DNA was needed to unlock a Kryptonite weapon to disable Superman. However, though Lex Luthor (who, in this timeline, was a double agent working in secret for Batman) attempts to use the weapon after setting the Justice League Watchtower on self-destruct to distract Superman long enough, the plan fails. The main-universe Batman realizes they need their Superman to stop this Superman, and succeeds after defeating the alternate-universe Batman who was in disbelief.
After the main-universe Superman arrives and defeats Doomsday (Who was controlled by the alternate-universe Superman with a collar), the alternate-universe Superman confronts him, where they exchange their different points of view and the alternate-universe Superman points out his plan to travel back to the main-universe to reunite with Lois, despite that as the main-universe Superman pointed out, Lois would be horrified just by seeing the man that he has become.
After the main-universe Superman defeats him, the alternate Superman is locked up in a cell equipped with special lamps that emit red solar radiation to negate his powers.

Brainiac's Invasion
Main article: Injustice 2 (Video Game)
When Brainiac invaded Earth, Batman visited Superman to ask him about Brainiac. Superman told him that he had never heard of Brainiac, but asked Batman to let him out, saying that he would be needed to stop Brainiac. Batman refused however. While he was imprisoned, Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El had arrived on Earth after her ship was blown off course during her escape from Krypton. She was found by Wonder Woman and Black Adam, who trained her to use her powers. The three attempted to break Superman out. They fought his jailors, Firestorm and Blue Beetle, but Batman intervened, and released Superman. Having come to the realization that he couldn't beat Brainiac alone, especially not if he had to fight Superman's allies at the same time, he made a truce with Superman. They would combine their forces to stop Brainiac, on the condition that there would be no killing.
Working together, they attacked Brainiac's ship, but were unable to stop him from stealing Metropolis and several other Earth cities. Superman was seemingly killed by Brainiac, but unbeknownst to the others, he was actually kidnapped and taken aboard Brainiac's ship.
The other heroes managed to enter Brainiac's ship by channeling the powers of the Rock of Eternity through Aquaman's trident to disable the ship's shields. Here, Superman re-united with Batman and the two managed to disconnect Brainiac from his ship with a disruptor designed by Cyborg. While Batman and Kara defeated Brainiac, Superman attempted to take control of Brainiac's ship.
He succeeded in stopping the ship from crashing, but could not restore all of the cities Brainiac had taken. Tensions between Superman and Batman re-emerged immediately. Batman still refused to kill Brainiac, arguing that he was needed to restore the remaining cities. Superman on the other hand believed he was too dangerous to be left alive, and believed that given time, he could bond with the ship and restore the cities. A fight broke out, and Batman slashed Superman with a gold kryptonite dagger, weakening him. A fight broke out between Superman and Batman and their allies.
Kara, who by this time had grown disillusioned with Superman's brutality, led him and Wonder Woman to the Batcave, where Batman awaited them in a kryptonite batsuit. Superman defeated Kara, while Batman dispatched Wonder Woman, leaving the two old friends to fight a final battle. Superman was defeated, and taken to the Fortress of Solitude. Here, Batman used gold kryptonite rays to de-power Superman, and banished him to the Phantom Zone. Superman vowed that even without his powers, he would find a way back.
Possible Post-Brainiac Epilogue
Upon beating "Classic" mode in Injustice: Gods Among Us or "Multiverse" mode in Injustice 2 with any playable fighter, the player would receive a possible alternate ending to the game's story featuring their fighter. These alternate histories should not be seen as relevant to future sequels or comic adaptations.
"I vowed to protect the Earth. But to guarantee its safety, I need to expand my vision. Brainiac's ship is the ultimate weapon, but in my hands it can be so much more. Millions of civilizations await rebirth in Brainiac's collection. I'll find the bravest and strongest warriors among them and I'll start a new Regime - no, a new Legion. The Legion of Superheroes! With it, I'll bring peace not just to Earth, but to the entire universe - and the universes that lie beyond."
In another possible scenario, Superman defeated Batman in their final battle. He had Kara locked up in his old prison, and managed to successfully bond with the ship. Finding the cities of several great warrior civilizations in Brainiac's vaults, he restored them and recruited the greatest heroes of these worlds and his own to create a new Legion of Superheroes. He also managed to bring peace to all of Earth, but at a sinister cost. Using the powers of Brainiac he brainwashed those who would not side with him of his own will, like Batman. Together with his new legion, he vowed to bring peace not only to his own universe, but to the entire multiverse.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Superman possesses the same potential powers as an average Kryptonian. These include:
- Solar Energy Absorption: Under optimal conditions, this is the main source of Superman's super powers as they are contingent upon exposure to solar radiation from a yellow sun star system. Their biological make up includes a number of organs which lack analogues in humans and whose functions are unknown. It is believed that between one or more of these and their bio-cellular matrix, "yellow" solar energy is stored for later use. This allows for the use of these powers to fade when yellow solar radiation is not available instead of immediate failure.
- Heat Vision: Superman can, as a conscious act, fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it. can vary the heat and area affected.
- Super-Hearing: Superman's hearing is sensitive enough to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. With skill and concentration, can block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source or frequency.
- Enhanced Vision: Superman's vision processes the entire electromagnetic spectrum as well as allowing vast control over selective perception and focus.
This umbrella ability includes the following:- Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision: Superman can see well into most of the electromagnetic spectrum. They can see and identify radio and television signals as well as all other broadcast or transmitted frequencies. Using this ability, they can avoid detection by radar or satellite monitoring methods. This also allows them to see the aura generated by living thing.
- Telescopic Vision: This is the ability to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. Though limited, the exact extent of the ability is undetermined. In function, it is similar to the zoom lens on a camera.
- X-Ray Vision: This is the ability to see through any volume of matter except lead. Supermans can see things behind a solid, opaque object as if it were not there. They can focus this ability to "peel back" layers of an object, allowing hidden image or inner workings to be observed. The exact type of energy perceived—such as x-rays, cosmic rays, or some other energy invisible to normal humans—is unclear. This ability perceives an ambient energy source though, it does not involve the eye projecting a concentrated, possibly toxic, beam to be reflected back from objects.
- Microscopic Vision: This is the ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the atomic level.
- Infrared Vision: Superman can see with better acuity in darkness, and to a degree in total darkness.
- Flight: Superman is able to manipulate graviton particles to defy the forces of gravity and achieve flight. This ranges from hovering to moving in any posture, in any direction.
- Invulnerability: Due to the interaction of dense molecular structure and supercharged bio-electric aura, Superman is nigh-invulnerable to extreme energy forces. In addition, extends this protection against toxins and diseases.
- Superhuman Stamina: Superman is able to maintain continuous strenuous physical action for an indefinite period of time. This based on body converting yellow solar radiation directly to energy but is limited by physiological and psychological needs to eat, drink, and sleep.
- Superhuman Strength: Superman's strength is augmented by yellow solar radiation interacting with the greater than human density, resilience and biological efficiency of musculature. strength is more an act of conscious will on energy fields than actual physical strength. It is this act of conscious will that enables to perform physical feats that are beyond the mere application force, such as moving a mountain top without said rock crumbling under its own mass.
- Superhuman Speed: Superman is able to move at incredible speed by sheer force of will. This extends to perceptions and allows for feats such as catching bullets in mid-flight as well as covering vast distances in little or no time.
This also confers: - Super-Breath: Superman is able to create hurricane force winds by exhaling air from lungs. can chill the air as it leaves lungs to freeze targets. can also reverse the process to pull large volumes of air or vapor into lungs.
- Longevity: Superman can live longer than regular humans, remaining at their prime as long as they was under the exposure of the "yellow" sun.
- Self-Sustenance: Superman was able to survive in the space without any kind of problem to breath or even to talk while facing the green lantern army.
Abilities
- Expert Combatant: In combat situations, Superman makes use of an improvised fighting style that relies on overwhelming force and speed. He was capable of fighting and landing blows on Batman when he was on the green pill, before losing.[5]
- Genius Level Intellect: Superman display an unusually high level of intelligence, maintaining a high degree of control over his powers, being an experienced tactician and scientist.
- Indomitable Will: Superman was originally a optimistic and benevolent individual with an unyielding resolve. After his fall from grace, however, his strength of will became darker and Superman became a tyrannical autocrat who sought to destroy his enemies no matter the cost.
- Leadership: When he was a superhero, Superman had the ability to command respect and inspire others with his charisma, ardor, and idealism. But after becoming the High Councilor of the Regime, Superman became a brutal and pragmatic tyrant who inspired his followers to seek victory at any cost and destroy anyone who stood in their way.
- Charisma: His followers still keep believing in him like the best person to protect and guide the Earth even after his brutal actions against his enemies.
- Intimidation: In his fight against Black Canary, Kal was able to inspire fear deeply enough to not only gain a Yellow Lantern Ring, but to drive too much fear in the entire Earth to gathering power more than enough to throw one of the Guardians of the Universe and a whole planet in the Sun, all based not only on his powers but in special in the ring's power, fed by the fear of every person on Earth whom watched him almost killing the Black Canary.

Notes
- This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us and is an adaptation of Clark Kent/Superman. The original character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and first appeared in Action Comics #1.
- Superman was voiced by George Newbern, who previously voiced the character in Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, The Batman, Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam, and Superman vs. The Elite. Superman was also voiced by Justin Hartley in the 2021 Injustice movie.
Trivia
- Although Superman still responds to the name Clark Kent, he has completely discarded everything about his civilian life, he is usually referred to as Superman or Kal-El.
- Unlike the other Superman, this Superman said the line "May Rao have mercy on his soul." instead of "May God have mercy on his soul.". This indicates that he worships the sun deity of his late home planet of Krypton rather than any deity of the humans he rules over.
- If he and Lois had a boy, they would name him Jon after Clark's father.[4]
