History
Demon Knights
Not content with his life, he attempted a rebellion, which did not succeed. For his insolence and betrayal, he was banished to Belial's son Merlin, who had asked Hell for a means to protect Camelot. He fused Etrigan to the rebellious scribe Jason of Norwich, and they would walk Earth together, cursed to live with each other.[1]

Notes
- Etrigan was created by Jack Kirby, first appearing in The Demon #1. However, in the Prime Earth continuity, Etrigan first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in Stormwatch (Volume 3) #1 by Paul Cornell and Diogenes Neves.
- At his initial introduction in the New 52, Etrigan refused to speak in his traditional rhyming structure, seeing it as a sign of being servile in accordance to demon hierarchy.[citation needed] He later gained a tendency to rhyme after being cursed by Lucifer, although manifesting as a "compulsion" and not a necessity.[10]
Trivia
- Etrigan is considered the strongest of the "Champion" classification, magical beings whose souls, god or demon, are bonded to another human's.[11]
- Etrigan was once in a relationship with Madame Xanadu, the paramour of Jason Blood.[12] By all accounts she never truly loved him, having been with him at his request as she saw an opportunity to tame him and ensure he caused fewer problems. By the 21st century, Xanadu had separated from both men centuries prior.[13]
- After Flashpoint, Jason Blood words to summon Etrigan has changed. The new words are "Concealed within the form of man. Release the demon, Etrigan!"
- Demons have the ability to smell the effect of humans on their kind; the stench of Etrigan's spell-bond to Jason have permeated Etrigan over the centuries such that it is immediately noticeable.[14]
