Doctor Doog (New Earth)

Doctor Doog was an enemy of Starman.

History

Doctor Doog was a criminal scientist who was the leader (and only known member) of the "Secret Brotherhood of the Electron". Doog kidnapped a Prof. Davis in order to steal his powerful Ultra Dynamo, which would give him control over all electricity in the United States. He was defeated by Starman and apparently fell into one of his own death traps, but was heard laughing as he fell.^[1]

Doog returned a few weeks later to bedevil the Justice Society as an hireling of Ian Karkull. Karkull sent Doog to build a device to electrocute everyone in a large area of rural Georgia, but he was stopped by JSA member Hourman with some help from non-member Starman, who had been tracking Doog. (Unknown to Doog, his ultimate target was future president Jimmy Carter.) Doog was captured and presumably turned over to the police.^[2]

Notes

• Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-Two era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and no longer apply.
• Starman's son, Jack Knight, once told the story of his father's first encounter with Doog, misremembering the villain's name as "Doctor Droog".^[3]
  

Trivia

• According to Jack Burnley's introduction to The Golden Age Starman Archives Vol. 1, he originally named the villain "Doctor Doom", but it was changed by the editor for unknown reasons.
