Sun Temple (also known as Sun Palace in the SNES/PS version) is a location in Chrono Trigger that appears in 2300 AD. It appears in its original form in the Antiquity, although it is not accessible. The Son of the Sun resides inside.
Storyline
The Sun Temple is an ornate structure designed by the people of Zeal to house the Sun Stone, which was used prior to the advent of the Mammon Machine as their primary energy source. The palace floated west of the other islands and was sealed up after the Mammon Machine was created. It sank to the bottom of the ocean after the collapse of Zeal, where it remained until mysteriously appearing in the ruined future. The player characters acquired the Moon Stone there after defeating the palace's formidable guardian.
After acquiring the Moon Stone, it recharges by leaving it in the Sun Keep from 65000000 BC until 2300 AD. A problem occurs in 1000 AD.; someone steals the stone, namely the Mayor of Porre, and he refuses to relinquish the stone. Traveling back to 600 AD. and speaking to his ancestor remedies the problem. Give her Spiced Jerky for free and she ensures her children grow up generous. As a result, the Mayor in the year 1000 AD. is happy and returns the stone.
Finally, as the heroes return the Moon Stone to the Sun Keep. after traveling to the year 2300 AD., the heroes will find the Sun Stone.
Trivia
- The Sun Temple is referred to as the "Sun Keep of Zeal", causing much confusion. That the Sun Shrine and Temple both exist in the ruined future is proof that they are different structures.
