Recap[]

In this episode, we learn all about different animals with the help of a book Blue has that we can use to look them up. As we learn, we also try imitating the behavior of a number of animals for fun. We help Shovel and Pail to find out why beavers pick up sticks and why birds tweet. In the Skidoo segment, we meet Lady Godiva, who uses a submarine to take us under the sea, where we find three fish with a very interesting form of animal behavior called camouflage and learn why they use it. Steve then found a waddling with a clue on it, so he had to stay in a PC computer submarine for a few minutes to draw the clue.

Trivia[]

  • This episode introduces Steve's interest in anteaters, which will be continued in the future episodes Hide and Seek and Shy.
  • The Lady Gooddiver character in the Blue Skidoo segment in this episode is a spoof on Lady Godiva.
  • The bird in the living room picture frame is a great tit.
  • This is the last episode to use the "Notebook" phrase from both Blue Goes to the Beach and What Does Blue Need?.
  • This is the last episode to use the "A clue! A clue!" phrase from Blue's Favorite Song.
  • This is Amy Starr's last episode as the voiceover producer.
    • This was also the last episode in which Chris Boyce, one of the animators, was involved with until season six.
  • This episode can be seen on Nickelodeon's Animal Friends DVD from 2009.
  • This is also the first time since The Lost Episode! to use Mailbox's older design from Season 2.
  • The bedroom picture shows Steve pretending to be the Big Bad Wolf and Blue pretending to be one of the three little pigs from "What Story Does Blue Want to Play?".
  • This was the first episode to focus on animals.
  • This episode is the first of two episodes on the VHS release of Blue's Safari.
  • The episode was respelled as "Animal Behaviour" for the UK version.
  • Steve clucked the Mailtime song like a chicken instead of singing the lyrics to scat it. It's just like how Joe quacked the Mailtime song with Boris instead of singing the lyrics in Meet Polka Dots!.
    • After that, he communicated with Mailbox (who was pretending to be a monkey) this way before getting the letter. He does, however, go back to his usual talking after he states he was just chicken.
  • This is the second time in Season 3 that Blue appears four times during the closing credits.
  • When Steve first skidoos into the computer game, you can see outlines around his face used to make him stand out more.
  • Joseph Brancale, who appeared in the video letter previously appeared on the two Sesame Street videos, "Elmo Says BOO!" and "The Alphabet Jungle Game."
  • This is the fourth time Steve wore his tan shoes.
  • The credit sequence in this episode is recycled from "What's That Sound?".
  • When Steve sung The So Long Song, his design from "Draw Along with Blue" was used.
  • At the end of the letter, the kids don't say, "Bye, Steve!". Instead, a seal says it by barking it with a kid who says, "I think he's saying, "Bye, Steve!"".
  • The answer to Blue's Clues is the same as one of the answers to gold clues in the online game, "Blue's Gold Clues Challenge".
  • In the original version of the video letter, it was focused on animals at the zoo. Though in the UK version, it was focused on pets instead.
  • When helping Lady Gooddiver find the camouflage fish, when they were found, music was heard from past clues (Example: The rockfish used timpani drums).
  • In this episode, the only way for Steve to get the mail is by pretending to be a chicken.
  • One of the boys in the video letter segment would later appear in the video letter segment in The Big Book About Us.

Goofs[]

  • At the end of the episode, when Steve sang The So Long Song, there was a slight delay when he sang the line "Thanks for doing your part".
  • When Steve draws the 1st clue on the colors Black & White, he uses a black crayon instead of his normal crayon. His normal crayon draws in black so he shouldn't use an actual black crayon. This error also occurs in The Alphabet Train.
  • Though this episode was made and aired in 1999, the credits mistakenly say that this episode was copyrighted in 1996.
