Vulpimancers,[1][2][3] also known as Megamutts,[1][3] are an animalistic species from the planet Vulpin.[Bandai 1]
Their evolved counterparts are Evolved Vulpimancers.
Appearance[]
Vulpimancers are animalistic beings with canine paws, curving claws, and quills that grow on their backs. Their most notable feature is that they have no visible eyes, and instead have gill-like nostrils on the sides of their necks. A Vulpimancer's size ranges from an adult human to several times larger. As they mature, they grow tails.
Vulpimancers commonly have orange fur, though they can come in other colors such as light blue or dark pink. As they reach adulthood, Vulpimancers gain stripes on their backs.
Some Vulpimancers from Vulpin have dog-like mouths with matching teeth and tongues, whereas others have more unearthly mouths with worm-like tongue, chapped lips, and four large fangs.
Young Vulpimancers have quill-like fur, which becomes straighter when they mature. This excludes the chin hair on Vulpimancers from Vulpin.
Language[]
Vulpimancers do have a language, but it is too difficult for Universal Translators to translate and they are unable to speak English.[DM 1] In fact, they lack the vocal anatomy to speak.[DJW 1] There is a special translator that can translate their language, but it is not as portable.[DM 2]
Behavior[]
“ | Vulpimancers never were big on small talk, even with their own kind. | ” |
– Max after Wildmutt failed to communicate with Vulpimancers.[3] |
From what has been shown, Vulpimancers are very irritable and not very cooperative, even amongst themselves.[3] Despite this, Vulpimancers seem to prefer hunting in groups.[3][4][5]
Vulpimancers whine like dogs when scared.[6]
Powers and Abilities[]
More animal than humanoid, Vulpimancers are beastly aliens with superhuman athletic ability[7] and heightened senses of smell, hearing and taste.[CN 1] As a trade-off to not having proper vision, the amazing sense of smell Vulpimancers have make up a dull 360 "radar" that they use to "see",[pop-up 1] making it nearly impossible for opponents to sneak up on them.[7]
A Vulpimancer's enhanced sense of smell allows them to easily track down people or objects from their scent.[8][9][10][11] With it, Kevin 11 was able to track down Ben in the Null Void.[pop-up 2][12] Their sense of smell also renders any kind of visual deception useless, as they can effortlessly identify and track entities that are invisible[13] or wearing a disguise.[14]
Vulpimancers possess sharp teeth and a strong bite force, as Wildmutt was able to rip wires and pieces out of Vilgax's Mechadroids;[7] harm a Limax[15] and Animo's Mutant Prairie Dog;[16] rip out a piece of the Rustbucket 3;[17] and rip off wires ensnaring two Plumbers.[18]
Vulpimancers possess sharp claws, as Wildmutt was able to effortlessly slash through Cooper's security drones;[16] keep himself attached to a wall within the Resolute while the airlock was open;[9] and quickly dig through stone.[11] Additionally, Wildmutt's claws help him scale surfaces.[12]
Vulpimancers have enhanced strength, as Wildmutt was able throw a dumpster at a group of Limax and tackle one of them into a wall;[15] and tear off the roof of a car and fight off the Circus Freak Trio;[19] carry a Florauna on his back while running without difficulty;[20] hold his own against a Buglizard;[21] and pin down a Merlinisapien.[13]
Vulpimancers have enhanced durability, as Wildmutt able to jump through a window;[13] take punches from a Limax;[15] and survive a steel tower falling on top of him.[19] Vulpimancers are also very quick and agile,[20] being able to run faster than a cheetah.[DR 1] Additionally, they also have enhanced reflexes, as Wildmutt able to quickly dodge a sword slash from Eon[22] and trip a Kineceleran running at him.[23]
Vulpimancers can survive in hazardous, sub-zero temperature environments, such as those on their homeworld.[Bandai 2][VA 1] This allows them to break through ice easily if frozen solid, as demonstrated by Vulpimancers in the Null Void.[4]
Vulpimancers are a quadruped. However, they are capable of standing on their hind legs.[22] In addition, their feet are prehensile, as Wildmutt caught Gwen with his foot as she was about to be sucked into space.[9]
Vulpimancers can fire the quills from their backs as projectiles. However, they can only do this when they reach adulthood.[pop-up 3][24]
Weaknesses[]
The higher hearing range of a Vulpimancer can be taken advantage of, as high frequency noises like a Sonic Pitch Whistle[3] or a Zaroffian's whistle[21] can overwhelm their senses and stun them. Vulpimancers are also sensitive to strong smells.[ab 1][ab 2]
Vulpimancers are implied to be vulnerable to fire, as shown with some other members of the species when they were repelled by Swampfire's flames.[4]
When infected with a cold, a Vulpimancer's nostrils (on the sides of their necks) get blocked by mucus, making them unable to smell, rendering them essentially "blind".[25]

Trivia[]
- Thomas N. Perkins IV believes that the Vulpimancers who appeared in Truth are an older/mature version of the Vulpin Vulpimancers. He does not know if gender differences were mentioned during the Original Series' run.[TP 1]
- Because of how they do not see in the conventional sense, it's possible that Vulpimancers cannot be scared by Toepick's species.[DJW 5]
