Empire of Cats (日本編 Nihon-hen, Japan Arc) is the first saga in The Battle Cats/Nyanko Daisensou and is unlocked from the beginning. This mode contains 3 chapters, with 48 stages in each. Collecting all Treasures available in each stage is the main goal in this mode. Chapter 1 has been available since Ganso!! Nyanko Daisensou, while Chapters 2 and 3 were introduced in the re-release, Nyanko Daisensou.
Version 5.6 added Zombie Outbreaks to Chapter 1, Version 5.7 brought them to Chapter 2, and Version 5.8 brought them to Chapter 3.
Story[]
The Empire of Cats opening plays every time the player opens the game. In most versions of The Battle Cats, Empire of Cats focuses on the Cats taking over Earth and the Moon, but in the Japanese Version, they only take over the 47 prefectures of Japan and Iriomote Island. As a result, the Japanese Version has different names, Treasures, backgrounds and enemy bases for most levels, though the levels themselves play out the same in all versions.
In all versions except the English Version, the Empire of Cats opening is stated to begin on New Year's Eve of whatever year the device's clock is set to. For example, if the current year is 2025, Empire of Cats starts on the last day of 2025.

- All enemies in this chapter have a strength magnification of 150%.
- The final boss of this chapter is Dark Emperor Nyandam, with a stronger wave of peons.

Treasure Explanation[]
- Main article: Treasure
These Treasures can be split into three groups (in ascending order): Inferior, Normal, and Superior. When completing a stage, you have a chance to earn a Treasure (quality is random). You can try a stage again to get higher Treasure quality.
Using a Treasure Radar in a stage will result in a guaranteed Superior Treasure.
Completing a set of Treasures activates its associated effect. Effectiveness is determined by the quality of the whole set.

Trivia[]
- Most of the enemy bases in the English version of Empire of Cats were taken directly from Kumanchu Royale.
- From version 12.0 onward, playing on December 31st shows an alternate version of the Empire of Cats intro in which True Superfeline steadily approaches the player. At the end of the intro, the screen turns red, alluding to the line, "2022, New Year's Eve. The Japanese archipelago is stained with blood," (2022年、大晦日。日本列島が血に染まる) from the Japanese Version's intro.
- Master of Mind Catcrates' Japanese description directly references the line, "'Nyanko' and 'Chanko' sound similar," (にゃんこ」と「ちゃんこ」は響きが似ている) from the Japanese Version's intro.
- "A government of the Cats, by the Cats, for the Cats is the new world!" is a reference to the Gettysburg Address, in which Abraham Lincoln famously stated that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
- There are only three enemy types in Empire of Cats: Traitless, Red and Floating.
- In the Taiwanese Version, stages 1 and 2 are Taiwan and Hong Kong instead of Korea and Mongolia, which appear later in place of Philippines and Cambodia respectively. Due to the additions of Taiwan and Hong Kong, Philippines and Cambodia do not appear as playable stages in the Taiwanese Version. The only differences are the stage names, Treasure names and enemy bases.

Into the Future (未来編 Mirai-hen, Future Arc) is the second saga in The Battle Cats and is unlocked after clearing Chapter 1 of Empire of Cats. This mode contains 3 additional chapters, with 48 levels in each once again. This mode also introduces Timed Score Rewards, in which you gain bonus rewards depending on how quickly you complete a stage.
The main gimmick of this saga is the debut of Alien Enemies; they are extremely strong, don't give much cash, and have a 700% strength magnification by default, which can only be reduced by the anti-Alien Crystals you may obtain as Treasure.
The deployment cost for Cat Units is that of Legend Stages and EoC Chapter 2, which means you pay 1.5x for the base price of a unit. Chapters 2 and 3 don't change the price.
Version 7.4 brought Zombie Outbreaks to Chapter 1, Version 8.8 brought them to Chapter 2, and Version 9.5 brought them to Chapter 3.
Story[]
In Into the Future, the Cats have time travelled from Empire of Cats to the far future, when hostile Aliens who arrived on April 1st, 29XX have invaded every country on Earth. After stopping the invasion and defeating the Aliens, it is revealed that a rocket is being built by the Cats, alluding to Cats of the Cosmos. Unlike Empire of Cats, the English and Japanese versions of Into the Future take place across the same locations.
In all versions except the English Version, the year the Aliens landed on Earth is 900 years ahead of whatever year the device's clock is set to. For example, if the current year is 2025, the opening will say the Aliens arrived in 2925.
New Features[]
Aliens[]
Into the Future introduces a new enemy trait: Alien. The trait's main gimmick is that every Alien enemy has a default strength magnification of 700% (additive to other buffs). However, there are new crystal treasures to combat this; each superior reduces the magnification by 100% (subtractive).
Aliens introduced in Chapter 1:
- Shibalien

- Aliens introduced in this chapter have a strength magnification of 100%-300%.
- Old Aliens not introduced in this chapter have a strength magnification of 500%-1,000%. Other enemies' buffs are around sub-chapter 27 levels.
- The final boss of this chapter is Raging Bahamut Cat, with an even stronger wave of Alien peons.
- Players receive 100 Cat Food and unlock Bahamut Cat's True Form upon completion. He becomes more of a kamikaze unit, with extraordinarily high DPS, insane movement speed and much more frequent attacks. However, his range is greatly reduced in this form.

- Obtaining all Superior Treasures in this chapter awards 2,500,000 XP.

Note: Void Fruit, Blood Fruit, Sky Fruit and Heaven's Fruit improve effects used against the specified enemy's type:
- The Strong Against effect goes from 1.5x damage dealt to 1.8x damage dealt, and 0.5x damage received to 0.4x damage received.
- The Massive Damage effect goes from 3x damage dealt to 4x damage dealt.
- The Insane Damage effect goes from 5x damage dealt to 6x damage dealt.
- The Resistant effect goes from 1/4 damage received to 1/5 damage received.
- The Insanely Tough effect goes from 1/6 damage received to 1/7 damage received.
- The Freeze, Slow, Weaken, Curse and Dodge Attack effects are increased in duration by 20%.
- Finally, the Knockback effect's distance is increased by 30%.
Like the abilities they affect, they do not stack on multi-traited enemies. There still appears to be some uncertainty about what exactly each Treasure set's effect is alone.
If the Fruit Treasures are not at an equal amount when a cat with multiple targeted traits is used against an enemy with more than one of its targets (e.g., Baby Gao vs. Bears Be Back while Blood Fruit is at 100% and other Fruit Treasures are at 200%), the Fruit Treasure with the highest % will take priority. See Treasure for more information on each Treasure.

Trivia[]
- The Time Machine bears some resemblance to the DeLorean Time Machine from Back to the Future, as it has wheels that turn sideways like in the 2nd movie and rocket thrusters in the back.
- In BCJP, Into the Future's map lacks the blue tint that it has in all other versions of the game.
- In the Japanese version of the Into the Future opening, the narrator's list of ways the Aliens enacted revenge on humans (sinking Japan, creating a Floating Continent, etc.) consists of yojijukugo (four-character compounds). This is a throwback to the Japanese version of the Empire of Cats opening, in which the narrator tries using yojijukugo to stop the Cat Army's advance.
- China, Jamaica and the Moon are the only stages to retain their positions from Empire of Cats, being respectively the 3rd, 36th and 48th locations visited in both campaigns.
- Maldives and Hawaii are the only locations visited in Empire of Cats to not appear in Into the Future, since Floating Continent and The Great Abyss weren't in Empire of Cats, so some levels had to be replaced.
- Ironically, none of the enemy bases from Into the Future are present in its main menu background.
- On the far right of Into the Future's main menu background, you can see a freighter base which doesn't appear in any stage.
- The monkey-shaped crop circle on the map is based on "The monkey", one of the many Nazca Lines of Peru.
- Some of the crop circles on the map are shaped like the aliens from Space Invaders.
- In the Taiwanese version, stages 3 and 21 are Taiwan and Hong Kong instead of China and the Philippines. The locations in between are all shifted forward by 1 (i.e., China is stage 4 instead of 3), changing the stage names, Treasure names and enemy bases, but not the backgrounds. Just like in the Taiwanese version of Empire of Cats, Cambodia and the Philippines do not appear as playable stages.

- Not to be confused with Cats in the Stars.
Cats of the Cosmos is the third saga in The Battle Cats and is unlocked after clearing Chapter 1 of Into the Future. Like the previous sagas, it contains 3 Chapters, each with 48 stages. Cats of the Cosmos features most of the enemies introduced in Into the Future, as well as some new enemies and Stories of Legend enemies.
The main gimmick of this saga is the introduction of "Starred" Alien Enemies, which are unaffected by the Aqua Crystal and Plasma Crystal Treasures from Into the Future. Starred Aliens have a 1,600% strength magnification by default, which can only be reduced by collecting the Treasures in Cats of the Cosmos.
Chapter 1 was added in Version 6.5, Chapter 2 was added in Version 7.2 and Chapter 3 was released in Version 8.3.
Version 11.3 brought Zombie Outbreaks to Chapter 1, and Version 12.6 brought them to Chapter 2.
Story[]
As its name suggests, Cats of the Cosmos has the Cats invading the cosmos and encountering more Aliens, presumably using the rocket mentioned at the end of Into the Future. The ending reveals that the narrator of Cats of the Cosmos was Cat God and that the Cats and Aliens have discussed time travel, mind control and "all kinds of obscure technical topics" with each other. It also suggests moving onward to the realm of legend, referring to Legend Stages (although Legend Stages is unlocked earlier).
New Features[]
Starred Aliens[]
This saga introduces a variant of the Aliens that can be identified by a yellow star badge on a part of their bodies. Even though they are categorized as Aliens, the Crystal Treasures collected in Into the Future don't affect them. They initially have a 1600% strength magnification. Collecting all Superior anti-Starred Alien Treasures in a Cats of the Cosmos chapter will reduce their stats by 500% each (1,600% - 1,100% - 600% - 100%).
Starred Aliens introduced in Chapter 1:
Starred Aliens introduced in Chapter 2:
Starred Aliens introduced in Chapter 3:
Treasure[]
- For the full article, see Treasure.
This saga expands the series of "elemental" Fruit Treasures that increase the effectiveness of certain abilities against a particular type of enemy. Titanium Fruit (Metal), Antimatter Fruit (Zombie) and Enigma Fruit (Alien) are available to collect here as well as Treasure to increase XP earned, max Cat Energy and five sets of Treasure for weakening the Starred Aliens. The last Treasure on the list is the Mystery Mask, which is needed to weaken the final boss of each chapter.
Abilities[]
- Main articles: Special Abilities and Barrier
This saga introduces the Warp, Immune to Warp, Barrier and Barrier Breaker abilities. Enemies with the Warp ability have a chance to bring one or a group of Cats they hit backward or forward a specific distance after an amount of time; Cats with the Immune to Warp ability will ignore this effect. Warped units will disappear from the battlefield until the warp duration ends, but still count toward the Cat Deploy Limit.
Enemies with the Barrier ability are able to ignore any damage that is weaker than the limit of their Barrier as well as any status effects that would be inflicted by those attacks. Each enemy has a Barrier with different limit and it is not affected by strength magnification. If a single attack deals more damage to a Barrier than the Barrier's health value (including additional damage from abilities such as Massive Damage or Savage Blow), the Barrier will break. After breaking the Barrier, the enemy is vulnerable to all attacks and status effects; Cats with the Barrier Breaker ability have either a percentage chance or are guaranteed to break Barriers, without having to deal higher damage than the Barrier limit.
Restrictions[]
The majority of the stages in Cats of the Cosmos have Battle Restrictions. Every 3 stages has different restrictions, with a few exceptions. The restrictions are as listed:
- Normal, Rare, Super Rare, Uber Rare, Legend Rare only
- Cats with ≥300¢ deployment cost only
- MAX number of 20 Cats
- Only deploy Cats in the first row
- Normal, Special, Uber Rare, Legend Rare only
- Cats with ≤4,000¢ deployment cost only
- Special, Rare, Super Rare Cats only
- Cats with ≤1,200¢ deployment cost only
- MAX number of 15 Cats
- Special Cats only
- Cats with ≥1,200¢ deployment cost only
- MAX number of 10 Cats
- Special, Rare, Uber Rare, Legend Rare only
Chapter 1: Beyond the Exosphere[]
- Starred Aliens in this chapter have a strength magnification of 100%; other enemies' buffs are around Into the Future Chapter 2 levels.
- The final boss of this chapter is The Cat God, with non-stop waves of Starred Alien peons.
- Players receive 100 Cat Food and unlock a 70% discount on all of The Cat God's miracles upon completion.
- Obtaining all Superior Treasures in this chapter awards 3,000,000 XP.
Chapter 2: The Passion of Catgod[]
- Starred Aliens introduced in this chapter have a strength magnification of 100%.
- Old Starred Aliens not introduced in this chapter have a strength magnification of 131%-300%; unstarred Aliens are even stronger than in Into the Future Chapter 3, and other enemies' buffs are around sub-chapter 27.
- The final boss of this chapter is Cat God, with stronger waves of Starred Alien peons.
- Players receive 100 Cat Food and unlock Cat God the Great upon completion.
- Obtaining all Superior Treasures in this chapter awards 4,000,000 XP.
Chapter 3: Even Stars Burn Out[]
- Starred Aliens introduced in this chapter have a strength magnification of 100%-900%.
- Old Starred Aliens not introduced in this chapter have a strength magnification of 150%-2500%; most other enemies' buffs can be compared with somewhere around sub-chapter 36.
- The final boss of this chapter is Final Boss Giga-God, with even stronger—albeit limited—waves of Starred Aliens.
- Players receive 150 Cat Food along with a Platinum Ticket upon completion.
- Also, clearing this chapter will give players access to Cat Capsules+, an upgraded version of Normal Cat Capsule.
- After completing this chapter, there will be a bonus stage where Filibuster Obstructa will appear. Once the stage is completed, the player will unlock Filibuster Cat X.
- Obtaining all Superior Treasures in this chapter awards 5,000,000 XP.
Zombie Outbreaks[]
- Main article: Zombie Outbreaks
In Cats of the Cosmos' Zombie Outbreaks, the only restrictions to appear are Cat Deploy Limits of 5, 10, or 15, even in stages that normally have different restrictions. Chapter 2 deviates significantly from past Outbreaks by not only reintroducing several Legend Stages Zombies like Zamelle and Formicidaean Ariant, but also adding Colossal and Behemoth enemies of other traits to many stages alongside the Zombies. See the Zombie Outbreaks article for more information.
Stages and Treasures[]
Like all other main chapters, there are 48 stages, each with a Treasure to obtain. The 48 different stages are named after real stars, nebulae, planets, a black hole and some fictional planets.

Trivia[]
- Many of the enemy bases, Treasure names and stage appearances on the map in this saga are pop culture references. Some of the most noteworthy are stages 33 through 39, all of which have different references to Mobile Suit Gundam.
- Most of the stage names and individual Treasure names are reused from Chapter 3 of The Battle Cats POP!, Interstellar Invasion.
- Most anti-Starred Alien Treasures were named with a format "natural satellites, gemstone", e.g. "Phoebe Beryl" is named after Phoebe, a moon of Saturn and Beryl, a gemstone that has a golden colored variant. The sole exception is "Stellar Garnet" in which Stellar means "star". The only thing connecting it to moons is that moons can be found by stellar occultation (solar eclipse).

- Aku Altars Appear!
- Your Aku Research is complete and the Gates of Aku have opened!
- Visit Empire of Cats to enter this dark realm...
Story[]
Thanks to the Empress' Research, the Cats successfully open the gates to another place of existence. As expected, these lands are dominated by the nefarious Aku Enemies they had previously run into, but are also dotted with evil "Aku Altars" whose magics weaken the Cats to near-powerless levels. As they soon discover, these Altars were the work of a malevolent priest with frightening power and a dastardly plot nine years in the making—"Mamon", not Hargon—who works tirelessly to undo the seals placed by legendary heroes on the god of destruction—"Jagando", not Malroth—in times long past.
Although weakened to critical levels, the Cats battle it out through the Aku Realms and regain their former power little by little, one Altar at a time. Midway through, they reach Mount Aku (Mount Fuji in the Japanese Version), where Mamon attacks them and makes off with the mountain's "crystal of awakening" needed for the final step of his plan. The Cats catch up to him and defeat him once more on the Moon (Iriomote Island in the Japanese Version), only for him to escape once more and the Cats to learn that Jagando has already been revived on Mount Aku/Mount Fuji. But even the god of destruction is no match for an army of weird cats, and with Jagando defeated once more, Mamon loses everything he had worked so hard for, his spirit utterly crushed to where, for the first time in forever, he can finally get his mind off world domination and reunite with his family.(yay!) The Aku Altars' powerful seals are universally deactivated, giving the Cats full reign in other areas where they may have obstructed their progress.
As the Cats leave the Aku Realms, the Lord of Ruin's egg in their paws, Mamon parts them farewell and sends them thanks for giving him the chance to rehabilitate, but ends his message on an ominous note: "We'll surely meet again, Battle Cats. Just you wait..."
Explanation[]
This is basically a bonus chapter of Empire of Cats, with its own map and stages, but there are some catches. First, the stages become available out of order, with Korea/Nagasaki always being the first, but after that, some stages are randomly chosen to temporarily become available for the duration of 3 hours, after which new stages are picked and those that were not completed become unavailable again. Those that were completed stay available forever (this does not include the invasion on Mount Aku/Mount Fuji). Although random, note that the selection is most likely to involve early stages and will probably not go too far after the furthest stage that is completed, meaning that after Korea/Nagasaki, you probably won't get stages in the second half of the map. Tap the "Aku Altar Appears!" button at the stage select screen to move immediately to the first of the currently available Aku Altar stages. Tapping the same button again will take you to the next available stage. The main gimmick of the Aku Realms is the Aku Altar and its ability to restrict unit levels. Cats are initially reverted to level 1 (only during battle) and have their + levels invalidated. After beating Korea/Nagasaki, the restriction will rise to level 2 for whichever stage to play next, then increases by one after first clearing that next stage and so on. This continues until the 49th stage is beaten and the level restriction reaches 50, with + levels staying disabled all the way. The order of the stages in the map is irrelevant for this; whichever stage you play sixth will be the one in which your cats will be forced to level 6 and so on. This means that it would be optimal to play the stages in order (by waiting for the next to be randomly picked as one of the available stages), as most of the stages are generally in order from easiest to hardest on the map, as one would expect. Not doing so may result in level 10 units having to be used in a stage balanced for level 20 ones, then maybe, level 40 units being available for one of the very first five stages, which would therefore be a free win.
Note that the units used will still keep their current form, meaning that the level restriction only affects the starting stats (Eraser Cat, for example, will revert to level 1, but stay in True Form, so its stats will be higher than a level 1 Tank Cat).
Stages and Rewards[]
The Aku Realms' stages take place in the same locations as normal, but there is one added stop which appears as stage 30: Mount Aku/Mount Fuji, increasing the total number of stages to 49. This stage drops an Aku Catfruit when cleared for the first time. After completing the Moon/Iriomote stage, you will receive a one-time Gold Catfruit and unlock an invasion in Mount Aku/Mount Fuji, where you will encounter Lord of Ruin Jagando. Complete the invasion to receive a Platinum Ticket, unlock Jagando Jr., and strip the Aku Altar of its ability to disable + levels.
Treasures still take effect here, but there are no new ones to collect.
Aku Enemies[]
As its name suggests, the Aku Realms are home to a variety of Aku Enemies, some of which cannot be found elsewhere.
- Aku Doge
- Sinner Snache
- Cerberus Kids
- Condemned Peng
- Aku Gory
- Le'Behemoth
- Fallen Bear
- Wicked Face
- Dark Priest Mamon: Appears in stage 30, Mount Aku/Mount Fuji.
- High Priest Mamon: Appears in stage 49, Moon/Iriomote.
- Lord of Ruin Jagando: Appears in the bonus stage, Mount Aku/Mount Fuji Invasion.
The strength magnifications vary for each Aku, starting out low but reaching endgame levels in the last few stages.
Appearance Pattern[]
Compared to Zombie Outbreaks, the Aku Realms has more consistency to when and which stages will appear, which is dependent on how many have already been cleared. Every 2 hours and 59 minutes, the game will choose up to 5 random stages and then roll the die for each one; if successful, the stage will become available, and if not, the game will try again after another 2 hours and 59 minutes. The number and selection of stages that can be chosen are based on the player's current Level Seal; the higher the Seal, the greater the range of candidates for playable stages.

Notes[]
- Despite also being part of Empire of Cats, the Aku Realms are much harder than Zombie Outbreaks, which is due in no small part to their far wider roster of enemies. Most of the enemies encountered are unrelated to those found in the normal Empire of Cats stages. Expect to see every trait except Relic; Stories of Legend Enemies like Brollow, Two Can and Henry; Into the Future Zombies like Zuche and Cadaver Bear; and even a few Uncanny Legends Enemies like Gobble, Zollow and Ragin' Gory.
- The Aku Altar only restricts normal levels and + levels; other upgrades such as True Forms, Talents and Talent Orbs will not be affected.
- Since the Aku Altar restricts + levels until Mount Aku's invasion is cleared, Normal Cats will have extremely low stats, for example Eraser Cat will only have 7,200 HP at Seal 20 and beyond. Crazed Cats will be much more effective since they only rely on normal levels, and have stats designed around lower levels.
- Despite technically being an extension to Empire of Cats, the Aku Realms are officially considered as their own story chapter.

Trivia[]
- The text on the background of uncleared Aku Realm stage buttons is upside-down katakana which translates to: "Stealing energy from another world; the Devils' Fortress seals levels."
- The book next to the "Aku Altar Appears!" button looks the same as Possessed Empress' cursed grimoire.
- According to the intro, the full title of the chapter is "The Aku Realms: Dark Priest's Desire".
- Although it is called "The Aku Realms", the button says "The Aku Gates", possibly meaning that the button itself is the entrance.
- The length of Mamon's 9-year scheme is the same as between the release of Nyanko Daisensou (2012) and update 10.9 (2021), as well as how long it took for Princess Cat to finish reading every book in the royal library.
- The Aku Realms were mentioned in Aku Cyclone's descriptions, Aku Researcher's Japanese description and Evil Aku Researcher's sign before being added to the game.
- The Aku Realms' Japanese logo resembles the Japanese Ghosts 'n Goblins logo.
