Shawn is a main recurring character of the first three seasons of Barney & Friends. He was portrayed by John David Bennett, II.

- Family: As mentioned in Barney Safety, it is revealed that Shawn has an uncle that works at a construction company.
- Favorite Food: Birthday cake (as mentioned in the episode "Eat, Drink And Be Healthy!")
- Dislikes: Shawn does not like drawing, as he considers himself to not be good at it (as mentioned in "Picture This!").

- Shawn used to be scared of dogs, due to being scratched by one, as mentioned in "What's That Shadow?".
- Shawn used to be scared of getting big/having to do a grown-up job, as mentioned in the episode "When I Grow Up...".

- As mentioned in the episode "Four Seasons Day", summer is the season that Shawn likes the best.

"Eat, Drink And Be Healthy!"[]
After Shawn decides to give his carrots away to Zippity and his friends, Barney and the others discuss the importance of healthy food. Towards the end of the episode, Barney encourages Shawn to try a carrot, leading Shawn to like the respective vegetable after trying it.
"When I Grow Up..."[]
Shawn mentions he's not too thrilled about getting big and is scared of doing a grown-up job. But Barney materializes with an amusing, musical look at the wonders of work. Towards the end of the episode, he still had the fear of getting big, worrying that he wouldn't be friends with Barney anymore. Barney reassures him that they'll continue to be friends no matter how big he gets.
"The Dentist Makes Me Smile"[]
Shawn is worried about his loose baby tooth. Barney assures him that losing teeth is natural for his age.

Shawn's disappointment with a science project leads Barney and the children to explore the joys of nature, gardening, and caring for plants.

- Have his name in an episode title.
- Appear in the premiere and finale of every season he appears in.
- Shawn started wearing glasses in "Picture This!"; John David Bennett, II, Shawn's actor, never wore glasses outside of the show.
- Despite not appearing the film, the original draft of Barney's Great Adventure had Shawn appearing in the beginning of the film, alongside the other children from season three of Barney & Friends.[1]
