Maferan is a gnoll^b fighter who is found on the second floor of the Guarded Compound in Athkatla's Temple District.

If Gorion's Ward and party intrude and decide to explore the second floor, Maferan will attack along with the rest of his group, including Sion, Ketta, Stalman, Olaf Rassmusen and Koshi, providing the party with quite a tough battle.

Gameplay[]

Maferan is a tough opponent:

His calculated final AC of -4 comes from heavy magical armor and shield
He deals extra damage with a strength of 18
He wears the Gift of Peace (aka Helmet of Defense) which provides a +1 bonus to all saving throws and 20% resistance to fire, cold and electrical damage
As a 17^th level fighter with a constitution of 18, he has 152 hit points so he can be quite a challenge to take down
Maferan will quaff his Potion of Regeneration when his hit point total reaches 20% of maximum, so it might not be found in the loot after the battle

Sword Coast Stratagems revises Maferan. He now gets a Barbarian Kit, with one use of Barbarian Rage. His Axe weapon proficiency is now 5 pips, and also has 2 pips in sword and shield fighting style. As a barbarian he now receives a +2 movement modifier and has a bonus 15% physical damage resistance and is immune to backstab. His adjusted THAC0, Weapon damage and attacks per round all get better, and saving throws by 1 point. His empty potion bottle is labelled Diet Doctor Thunder if you have installed the Sword and Soda mod.
