Exclusive Precept mods
Notes
- The Shade-exclusive precept mod Revenge is one of the few sentinel AI mods not removed and replaced with the non-exclusive Assault Mode precept mod in Update 24.0 (2018-11-08).
- Revenge cannot be simultaneously equipped with Assault Mode.
- Having Assault Mode equipped will increase Shade's attack range, but not change its inherent behaviour to only attack after its owner has been attacked.
- As of Update 7.10 (2013-05-03), Shade will no longer keep you cloaked when a stealth kill is taking place, even if there are enemies nearby.
- The cloaking cooldown used to be much quicker (around 5 seconds) but was nerfed to take almost 10 seconds to re-cloak again[citation needed]. De-cloaking can have serious penalties in stealth due to this longer cooldown.
Tips
- Ghost only activates if an enemy is in the activation radius sphere for the cloak, and Shade's view of the enemy is not obstructed by nearby objects.
- The cloaking can last indefinitely as long as an enemy is inside the activation radius.
- Activation is not dependent on the direction that Shade is facing. Warframe abilities will not bring you out of stealth and you will remain hidden, as long as another enemy is close by.
- Note that infested Volatile Runners will still explode when you are next to them.
- Consider Shade when choosing to be a support for your team, as running up to downed players without firing weapons can allow you to revive them while cloaked.
Trivia
- The name Shade could be derived from the literal meaning of shade or from the mythological creature the Shade which is a spirit of the dead.
- The Sprite skin for the Shade was first seen in Update 12.0 (2014-02-05), with the addition of the Training section in the Codex, under "Sentinels", as an unknown Sentinel design. Said Sentinel was finally revealed as a Shade cosmetic skin made available for purchase in Update 13.1 (2014-04-23).
- Shade has the highest health of all the sentinels, although it suffers from having half the shields of other sentinels.
- Shade, along with Dethcube were available as promotional items within the virtual world of PlayStation Home, following the users Avatar as they move.
- On the website of the official Warframe merch store, in the Collectibles section under posters in the Prime Poster 3-Pack, a recolored Shade equipped with Summus Prime accessories can be seen hovering next to Mag Prime on the Mag Prime Poster.
- Shade appeared in the Open Beta Trailer about 1:42 into the video.
- The Shade is the only Sentinel with a unique capacity of health and shields; 350 and 50 respectively.
Shade Prime is the the Primed version of the stealth Shade Sentinel, featuring enhanced Health, Shield, and Armor, additional and polarities, and comes with the enhanced Burst Laser Prime. Shade Prime was released alongside Hildryn Prime and Larkspur Prime.
Acquisition
Note that acquiring Shade Prime requires two open Companion slots: one for Shade Prime itself and one for the Burst Laser Prime robotic weapon it comes with.

Update 37.0 (2024-10-02)
- Changes to Companion Precepts
Many Companion Precept effects are currently too small or too brief to be really beneficial. We want your choice of companion to feel more meaningful and for your Companion to contribute in a more visible way, so there are a whole lot of buffs to get through.
- Ghost (SHADE Sentinel):
- When you move out of range of enemies, there is now a 3 seconds grace period before the invisibility effect ends.
- If you move back within range of enemies, invisibility will be sustained.
Update 36.0 (2024-06-18)
- Fixed Shade’s Ghost Mod randomly deactivating while surrounded by enemies who are in range.
- This was because Shade would choose one target to trigger invisibility, meaning the effect would end once they were killed. Now this Mod’s effect is no longer tied to one target, so the invisibility will persist so long as players do not engage in behaviors that will disrupt it.
Update 34.0 (2023-10-18)
- COMPANION STAT CHANGES
Two broad changes have been made with regard to your Companion's base stats to increase their staying power:
1. Health, Shields and Armor have been refactored across the board.
This simple numeric buff was made with the goal of increasing Companion survivability. This also means that the choice of whether to use, for example, Enhanced Vitality or Linked Vitality, will depend on your Warframe choice instead of the Linked Mod always being strictly superior.
2. Non-Sentinel Companions now gain their full Health and Shield values immediately when you acquire them.
Historically Health and Shield values would increase as your Companion ranked up, which you could see as "Rank Bonuses" in the Upgrades screen. We've removed this behavior and simply given Companions what would end up being their Rank 30 values at Rank 0. This should let you immediately take your Companions on more difficult missions after earning them!
Including both the removal of Companion Rank bonuses, and the base increase to stats, the following lists the stat changes for all Companions at Rank 0:
Revised Sentinel Stats:
- Shade: 600 Health (from 350), 130 Shield (from 50), 80 Armor (from 50)
- Shade Prime: 700 Health (from 350), 300 Shield (from 100), 100 Armor (from 100)
- Prisma Shade: 700 Health (from 300), 300 Shield (from 50), 80 Armor (from 50)
