The Titans took from us an outrageous number of races and cultures… our history. These slaughters are now humanity’s history… they are the path that the Eldian Empire chose to walk. Then, once the Eldian Empire ran out of enemies… they began to kill one another. That was the beginning of the Great Titan War. The families who held the eight Titans shed each other’s blood in an endless cycle of conspiracy and betrayal. | „ |
~ Willy Tybur about the Titans' history during his speech to the world. |
The Nine Titan Houses were the former ruling forces of the Eldian Empire during their reign over the world. They each were in control over one of the Nine Titans, to which they used to conquer, destroy, and oppress their enemies for around 1,900 years. Their reign fell apart during the Great Titan War, and seven of the Nine came into possession of a newly reborn Marley.
Duty[]
The Nine Titan Houses played crucial roles in the Eldian Empire's governance and military, utilizing their unique Titan powers to maintain control, expand territory, and defend against external threats. The complex interplay between these noble Houses, their powers, and the political dynamics of the empire forms a central part of the world’s history. The noble Houses of the Nine Titans each had specific duties, roles, and responsibilities that were often influenced by their geography and societal values. These duties can vary widely based on the House's location, resources, and position within their realms.
The heads of the Titan Houses had full control over the non-Eldian ethnic peoples of conquered lands and were subjected to the empire's rule, which could include slavery, forced labor, taxation, and cultural assimilation. Despite the amount of rule they had, eight of the Titan Houses were all required to be obedient towards the House of Fritz, who were in possession of the Founding Titan and acted as the overall monarchy of Eldia.
It is evident that the Eldian Empire’s Noble Houses harnessed their Titan powers to exert rule, expand its territories, and combine the Titan powers with construction projects, defense, and support during various other operations.
Qualities[]
The wielders of the Nine Titans all had a foothold to their own respective territories on the Marleyan continent, with numerous colonies across the rest of the world. Although exact numbers were never given, it can probably be assumed that they controlled 133 493 400 km2 (which is around 90% of the world’s landmass.)
They probably also possessed large amounts of wealth, including gold, resources, and trade, which was an important factor in power dynamics. The Titan Houses can fund armies, construction, and political endeavors more effectively.
Titan warfare was, nonetheless, the main significant source of power for the noble Nine Titan Houses and Eldia in general.
The two main types of Titans were the Pure Titans and the Nine Shifters.
1. All the Eldian military had to do with Pure Titans was just deploy a few of them on the battlefield, who had great destructive quality primarily stemmed from their immense size, strength, and ability to regenerate their wounds. However, their effectiveness was limited by a lack of coordination and controlled intent, as Pure Titans could only mindlessly detect and devour humans, with no individual thoughts or complex direction. The Fritz royal House could though, with the Founding Titan they were capable of controlling the Pure Titans as foot soldiers while the Founder acted as a general. But even in their mindless man-eating state, they still caused widespread destruction and casualties on the battlefield.
2. While in their regular human forms, the wielders of the Nine Titans contributed to their empire in a governmental and Diplomatic way. But in their Titan forms, they were mostly presented as using their power for battle and expansionism.
Founding Titan[]
The Fritz royal family held the power of the Founding Titan, which had the ability to create and alter Titans, and potentially control the Coordinate, a power capable of controlling all the other Titans. This made them the most powerful being in the entire world, as they easily could take down any nation with their army of Titans.
But the Founder was mainly busy with their royal responsibilities, as they had the power to manipulate the memories and actions of other Eldians. The royal family's primary duty was thus to maintain control over the empire and manage the other noble Houses.
Attack Titan[]
The Attack Titan was created from Ymir Fritz’s deep-rooted desire to be free, and all inheritors of this Titan were known to be rebellious in nature. Regarding their powers, they had great combat prowess, speed, and endurance. Its inheritors possess exceptional physical abilities, making them formidable fighters on the battlefield. This noble House was probably tasked with leading their own army and carrying out aggressive campaigns on behalf of the Eldian Empire. It can also be assumed that the Attack Titan was often on the front lines of battles, utilizing its combat abilities to defend the empire's interests.
But the most special trait of the Attack Titan, was their power of seeing the memories from future inheritors, meaning that they could see into the future. This combined with their defiant personality, made the ancient wielders of the Attack Titan use their knowledge of future events to possibly influence and impact the course of history. This includes influencing decisions, strategies, and actions based on the information they gained from these memories. However, the exact actions and consequences of these interventions can be complex and is mostly a mystery.
Colossal Titan[]
The Colossal Titan was best associated with complete destruction to their enemies. The Colossal Titan's unique abilities and immense size made it a formidable weapon that could be deployed in warfare with such ease that strategy wouldn’t necessarily have to be implemented.
For warfare, the Colossal Titan could’ve been used to breach fortifications and city walls during battles, enabling the Eldian military to invade enemy territories. Their power to emit extremely hot steam can cause widescale destruction due to fire quickly spreading in a city, while also disrupting enemy formations and forcing them to divert their resources to counter the destruction.
The Colossal Titan's most dangerous ability was its explosive transformation that could be used as a deliberate weapon in combat. The transformation could in its highest extent be so immensely destructive that the Colossal was capable to completely annihilate an entire army.
The noble House possessing the Colossal Titan, thus played a significant role in warfare and was presumably among the most feared.
Armored Titan[]
The noble House with the Armored Titan power was capable of being Eldia’s destructive shield. The Armored Titan's steel-clad skin provided exceptional protection against attacks, making it an effective frontline assault force. It could lead charges, break enemy lines, and absorb enemy fire while advancing.
The Armored Titan's durability and strength could also be used for breaching enemy fortifications, walls, and defenses. Its ability to withstand enemy counterattacks made it suitable for creating breaches in enemy lines.
Female Titan[]
The Female Titan was mainly used for her combat skills and agility that could be used to disrupt enemy formations and strategies. Its speed and large size combat prowess could create very fast paced attacks despite their size. The Female additionally had a special scream ability to attract Pure Titans, which could’ve been used to overwhelm enemy forces.
The Female Titan also had a unique power as to where, the wielder would absorb some material from other Titans, they themselves could temporarily use some of those powers, such as a special hardening ability they got from the Armored Titan. It could generally give the Female Titan numerous strategic options and abilities.
The person from the noble House that would inherit the Female Titan was always a woman, as only women could properly use this Titan’s power.
Beast Titan[]
The noble House with the Beast Titan had the power to an have animal-like appearance, which is each depended on the specific user. Many animal manifestations have existed with the Beast Titan, such as, apes, sheep’s, wapitis, serpents, bulls, rabbits, birds, okapis, and turtles. The constant change in the Beast Titan’s animal form would make it difficult for the enemies of this House to properly develop a specific strategy against the Beast, as new abilities, and the unique nature changes with each user.
If it was possible for the Beast Titan to be a marine animal, that would mean that the Beast could’ve also acted as a navy weapon for the Eldian Empire.
Jaw Titan[]
The Jaw Titan's most distinctive attribute is its extreme agility and resilient jaw strength. It was probably used on the frontlines during battles as its speed makes it well-suited for engaging in fast-paced assaults against enemy forces. Its rapid movements and swift attacks could be used to create chaos among opponents and exploit openings in their defenses.
The Titan gets its namesake for its hardened jaw that produces a powerful bite and is effective at targeting some of the strongest man-made structures, easily biting through stone and metal.
Another feature is that the Jaw is amongst the smallest of the Nine, but because of its high swiftness, it could easily evade any siege weapons used by the enemy.
Cart Titan[]
The Cart Titan is the only one from the Nine to not be used in an aggressive way, because its quadrupedal build, small size and extremely high endurance makes it more of a defensive unit. The wielder of the Cart could stay in their Titan form for multiple months, while the other Nine could only do it for a few hours. This made the Cart Titan useful during reconnaissance operations and the gathering of intelligence on enemy positions.
The Cart got its namesake from the fact that it is a logistics unit. Its elongated mouth and back, made it possible for the Cart to be used for transporting heavy artillery, weapons, or specialized equipment that could otherwise be difficult to move across the battlefield.
Because of the Cart Titan’s more non-aggressive powers, there is a high chance that it was mainly used for construction projects, although warmongering was its required task.
War Hammer Titan[]
The War Hammer Titan's power lies in its ability to create structures and weapons by using its hardened crystalline skin. Its arsenal of self-made weapons is large enough that it could have been used at any position in the battlefield, such as with its projectiles or artillery, providing a long-range attack option that could target enemy positions or key assets from a distance.
The War Hammer Titan was as its name implies, known for mostly using a warhammer in battle, where its advantage came from fighting offensively but with an additional hardened item strong enough to destroy the nape of a Titan with one hit.
The War Hammer Titan's ability to create structures could also be used to rapidly construct tactical installations such as bridges, barricades, or observation posts.
By the time of the days before the Great Titan War, the War Hammer Titan was held by the Tybur Family, although it is unknown how long they had it. During the decline the Eldian Empire, the holder of the War Hammer Titan sided with the Marleyan Uprising, as one of the factions of the Great Titan War, and fought with the oppressed citizens of Eldia who were not Subjects of Ymir to destroy the Empire, eventually stealing eight of the Nine Titans from the other ruling houses.
Eldian Military[]
All the Houses presumably had their own additional large armies, sworn noble houses, skilled warriors, and capable commanders are more likely to secure their interests and impose their will.

Trivia[]
- Aside for the Fritz family, the other eight families holding the Nine Titans throughout the centuries-long Eldian Empire may not have been the same since the beginning. As Eldia ruled a large empire for over 1,900 years, it is possible that any of the ruling houses might have been changed over the centuries, with any Titan being passed to a replacement family, taking the place of an old one, especially with the Founder's ability to abuse the power of memory wipe, which can be used to undo the noble status of any disliked family and reduce them all to mere common subjects out of spite.
- The earliest multiplied Subjects of Ymir separating from the royal family were the first Nine Titan Houses, with their blood being seen as a symbol of superiority among all the normal citizens of Eldia, both from the Eldian culture and conquered cultures alike.
- By the time of the days preceeding the start of the Great Titan War, the two only known named houses of the Nine Titans are the Fritz and the Tybur families.
- Given the name Tybur being possibly influenced by the Latin and Italian nomenclature (the name sounding like Tiberius and Italy's largest river Tiber) and Marley being based off Italy. The Tybur family's betrayal of Eldia and desire to restore the nation of Marley, it is possible that the Tyburs were a family of Marleyan descent who became assimilated into the Eldian Empire.
