The Devourer is the main antagonist of Fortnite: Battle Royale's ninth season. It is a gigantic hostile creature that broke out of Polar Peak and attempted to destroy the Vault doors, only to be stopped and killed by Mecha Team Leader.
Appearance[]
The Devourer is a massive, vaguely reptilian Kaiju like monster. It has two large front limbs and two small back limbs, along with a stubby tail. Its head is very large, housing a powerful jaw with rows of teeth and an equally large cyclopean eye.
Biography[]
The Devourer seemed to be trapped in the iceberg known as Polar Peak for many years, although its exact origin is unknown. Due to the tampering with the Vault in Season 8, the island's volcano erupted, destroying numerous locations. It also managed to heavily damage the lower portion of Polar Peak, cracking it. Players reported hearing odd breathing sounds from the iceberg. It wasn't until a few weeks after Season 9's initial release that the Devourer's eye was shown. Strangely enough, the eye followed player's movements, imitating the way a real eye would work. Players began to speculate what was under the iceberg for all this time.
On June 6th of 2019, the Devourer broke through the iceberg and escaped to the sea with a chunk of Polar Peak stuck to its back. As the weeks progressed, players could see the top of Polar Peak emerging from the water every so often. It began to attack and destroy a few locations, namely Pleasant Park, Snobby Shores, and Loot Lake. On July 20th of 2019, the Devourer appeared for its first and. currently, only public appearance at a Live Event aptly named the "Final Showdown". It began to wreak havoc across the island, and was about to destroy the Vault, when Mecha Team Leader intervened with a salvo of missiles. The resulting fight ended with Mecha Team Leader breaking the Vault itself, consuming its energy, and slamming Neo Tilted's hidden sword into the Devourer's forehead, causing it to decompose into a skeleton, which would later become an unnamed POI itself.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Enhanced Physiology: Being an incredibly powerful creature, The Devourer possesses various offensive and defensive abilities.
- Enhanced Strength: The Devourer has destroyed the top half of a pirate cabin with a single slap, severely damaged the Vault with only a few punches, and has shown incredible strength, in attacking and ripping through Mecha Team Leader with its large claws and teeth.
- Enhanced Durability: The Devourer can withstand heavy blows and various ranged explosives/projectiles such as Mecha Team Leader's rockets with no visible injuries.
- Enhanced Agility: The Devourer can swim at high speeds and jump very high out of the water, despite having a bulky and heavy frame.
- Ergokinesis: The Devourer has the ability to fire bright green lasers from its mouth with intense destructive capabilities. This laser was able to destroy multiple trees at once and heavily damage Mecha Team Leader.
- Bioluminescence: The Devourer’s body is shown to turn a bright green color before firing its corresponding laser.
- Amphibious Qualities: It has shown to be capable of breathing on land and in the water.
