Biography[]
Background[]
He is an altered gorilla who was originally a member of the Ape Army, being one of Koba's followers. Following Koba's death, he defected as he found it strange how Caesar took leadership after Koba died, and left the humans alone.
After a while, Red got tired of this, and talked with Grey, and wanted to leave Caesar's army, Grey agreed and they started creating their own colony with other apes that used to support Koba before his death. Ultimately, Grey became leader, although Red was the brain behind all of their decisions. Red later killed Grey when he tried preventing red from killing Caesar's wife Cornelia while she was helping another ape give birth to her children. Red was then run out of the village by Oak and the females.
Eventually, Red, along with other chimpanzees who followed Koba, joined the Alpha-Omega military faction and became Colonel McCullough's "pet" in order avoid being found and executed by Caesar. While Red become the personal bodyguard and third-in-command.
War of the Planet of the Apes[]
Red accompanied an Alpha-Omega platoon as they launched an attack on the ape colony. However, the attack was and Red he was captured alongside four other surviving soldiers and brought before Caesar, who declared that Koba was the one who started the war and that he only fought to defend his people. When a human soldier pointed Red out, Caesar looked at him and stated he was one of those who served Alpha-Omega because of his past loyalty to Koba and he fearing Caesar, but Red denied this as another ape named Spear struck him with a gun.
Red was then interrogated by Winter who he overpowered and demanded the location of the Ape Colony hideout. Realizing that in order to live, he had to give up information, Winter agreed on the condition that he be allowed to serve the Colonel, as he would otherwise would torture and slaughter him like any other apes who weren't "DONKEYS" (Apes that serve Alpha-Omega). Red ultimately agreed to the terms and Winter gave it up Colonel.
When Caesar noticed this, he got angry, the Apes saw him as a feral untrustworthy traitor. Even though being part of the Apes once, Red was extremely brutal and aggressive when torturing the Apes, most likely more than the humans. A good example of this was when every Ape got food and water, and when he was gonna give Caesar water, he poured ice-cold water on him instead.
Even through all of this, he still fought for the Apes in the end of the movie. When giving the troops their ammunition, he noticed Caesar's herd trying to escape, but became horrified when one of his superiors shot and killed many of the apes. After seeing Caesar being shot by Preacher, Red realized he was on the wrong side.
He then killed Preacher, allowing Caesar to destroy the gas canister, but Red was killed shortly afterwards by the gunner soldier who will die in the explosion caused by Caesar. By the end, the human military was left weakened and the apes lived on to see another day and rebuild.
